your line scores determine which ratings you are eligible for. you will be allowed to choose from whatever is available at MEPS, so for us to to sit here and say you are eligible to do X, Y and Z job is useless in case the only openings at A school are A, B and C jobs.

I was in the Navy Seal Teams for 10 years. As far as being in harms way while being the Navy is slim. Also, when you do such duty you will get even more benefits, like not paying taxes, i.e. none, which I did when I was near a combat zone. Also, you get a lot of great experience while in the Navy. Look at the pros and cons of everything. I had a great time in the Navy, however I had a great job that most people don't get to do. Most important, if it doesn't work out you can not re-enlist, etc depending if your becoming an officer or not. The Navy will probably open more doors that you have now, just that you have to give it time and patience.

There are more than just two great jobs in the Navy. Don't listen to Lord_van... WOOHOO Air Force or whatever his name is. He only made one acurate point in his answer. That being about the F22 and it being better than the F35 (and barely at that). He clearly doesn't know anything about Navy and Marine Corp fighter pilots. Their pilots are in no way inferior to Air Force pilots. I mean they land on Aircraft Carriers. You don't see Air Force pilots doing that. Anyway I digres... There are a lot of good jobs that you can do, it's just finding the one that intrests you the most. I have a cousin that works on the Avionics for the FA-18 fighter and she loves it. She's short also so she can get into the smaller areas of the plane for inspections and whatnot. I recently became a Navy Corpsman (paramedic). Corpsman can go pretty much anywhere in the Navy as well as the Marine Corps because the Navy provides the USMC their medical support. These are just two great jobs that the Navy offers. The key is to find a job that intrests you. I believe someone else has said it also but I'm going to mention it as well. Don't let the recruiter pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. If the job you want isn't open, then do one of two things don't sign until it is open, or pick another job that your just as intrested in. I hope this has been of some help.
Good Luck with you decision.

Some of the people put some wrong info. You can't be on a submarine. A 65 on the ASVAB is too low for nuc. I don't know what the cut off for other engineering rates are. As for the person who was giving you crap for wanting to pick a job, that is crazy. It is an all volunteer military so they try to get you a job that you qualify and want because people are more likely to work hard if they are doing something they want. When I went to MEPs they told me that I qualified for pretty much any job but they gave me a list of a couple. They also asked me what I would like to do. They had lists of jobs and job descriptions to look over and decide what I wanted. The job I chose wasn't one of the ones they mentioned, you just have to ask and if you don't like what is open you can wait until it opens up or just don't sign up.

When you go to MEPS next week all you ASVAB scores get plugged into the computer at classification and it spits out the top 3 jobs based on availibility based on test score, needs of the Navy and your preferance.
As a former recruiter I would not evan take somebody up to MEPS that wanted to play Montie Hall on I only want this or that. There is allot you will qualify for, but is it needed right now ? See what they offer and if you don't like it, don't sighn.
I always made the deal with applicants that If I take you to MEPS and they offer a job that you like, will you enlist ? If the ans is yes off we go.
Besides, "the best job" is the one you want to do and are qualified to take.

In the navy, there are only two good opportunities.
1: You can be on a submarine. They get the best food and since terrorists don't use submarines or destroyers, chances are good that you'll last through your entire career.
2: You can be a pilot. However, other than carrier landing, every aspect of the Navy's flying is inferior to the Air Force, and the USAF has better planes anyway. A lot of people don't know it, but the F22 can out-perform all models of the F35, which, other than the huge price, is a major contributer to the reason that we won't sell them to even our closest allies.
Mechanic: Go for it. Mechanics are the backbone of every branch of military and the government. Without them, the Apaches would be grounded and our carriers would be at the bottom of the ocean.
If you truly want to fly, but for some reason can't make it into either the USAF or Navy, you -could- try the marines, but their aircraft are even more watered-down, and they don't get any good ones until about 2010 when the JSF (F35) comes out, but even then, it will only be available to experts for the first several months.
You should go for the ASVAB again. My dad practically got a perfect score on his first try, but don't let that bother you. If possible, try the Air Force, but both of those Navy options are good too. Plus, you get to wear those awesome white suits.

Do you like mechanical work? There are plenty of mechanical jobs in the Navy, from engineman to aircraft maintenance.
Your ASVAB is no the low end of qualification, but you can try for the nuclear field. There are plenty of openings in nuclear engineering and the allow women in the field now. The are
large bonuses in the field, but the schools are very hard. Most people who enter the nuclear field end up failing out, but can still enter other interesting rates.
