I want to know why our soldiers were sent to war without the proper equipment like periscopes which without them have caused many deaths why isn't it part of their required equipment? Why some of our soldiers (my son included) were sent and is expected to stay another 90 days to the Anbar provence without safety glasses and although it has been expressed by the soldiers long before their deployment and still nothing is done. What do we have to do to rectify these situations? Does our government purposefuly send our soldiers to do a job without the proper equipment causing many deaths that they feel they can justify? I'm a mother what do I have to do to ensure my son's safety?

How many women and children have been targeted by occupation forces since they went into Iraq? Since the invasion there has been countless accusations of war crimes including rape torture and the mass-murder of unarmed civilians (hospital and school bombings).

What is happening in Iraq at the moment is nothing short of what the Black and Tans done in Ireland at the start of this centuary. Saddam was tried quiet rightfully for his crimes, and debatably hanged. Should the US and British leaderships now be tried for their respective crimes? They are after all an invasion force that attacked a country without provocation without UN backing, no different to Iraqs invasion of Kuwait.
The excuse for the US's invasion was to rid the world of "Weapons of Mass Destruction". So far no weapons of mass destruction have been found. In fact the US holds the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads, is the only country to have used such weapons (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and most likely to do so again.

There nothing we can do about Sunnis or Shiites, have been enemies for over 3000 years. Why does Bush think he can change this. Any Government that is place there will turn on USA, because Sunnis & Shiites hate Americans more than each other. My plan is let them have their Civil War move troops to the border of Syria & Iran. That way Iran & Syria cannot invade Iraqi. It will also save Americans Troops lives, they could actually see the enmies. Less movement by Troops and Security Forces. Let Iraqi Forces take care of the interior of Iraqi.
Military have better understanding of rotation of Troops, define amount of Troops securing the border area. Less strain, better moral, because their mission is more profound.

I checked the Boeing Sikorsky website but I wasn't able to find much information, maybe I didn't search hard enough. Did they cancell it because there was really no need for it? The Kamov choppers can out manouver it? Economical Costs or what? Both long and short answers are greatly appreciated.

I have noticed a large amount of soldiers going AWOL in my NAVY career and was wondering when the recruiting process will change? 90% of my shipmates were mislead into joining and about 60% of them accept it and go on..but a lot of them would do anything to get out. Why must the government make it so hard for people to get out that have no will to be in the service. I feel that if someone doesn't want to be there why force them to stay in? I myself have been cheated and lied to by the NAVY..if they would tell the truth about the military to begin with it would save them millions of dollars that they spend on troops that go AWOL because they were lied to or mislead. What good is a "slave" soldier?

I ask if you Americans would support a mandatory draft to make all Americans fight in this war on terrorism? I mean men and women, ages 18-40, rich and poor, ugly or pretty, etc. I think ALL should fight for the country and fight Bushs war.

why do we spend so much on defence .
I live in the UK but I suppose the same question could be asked in the US.
As far as I know nobody is threatening the UK except a few fundamental muslims and even these would not threaten us if we didnt interfere with other countries .
I dont understand why our polititions think that we have the right to tell other countries how they should conduct their affairs just because we dont like the way they do it.
there was an excuse in 1939 because the nazis were going for world domination but since then no country except America has had the power or the inclination .
At the moment we are in , Iraq , Afganistan, some places in easten europe , Africa , and of course there is the abomination in guantanamo .
Did our interference in Iraq lead to the birth of Bin ladens gang and how are we different to Russia in our treatment of Afganistan .
If a muslim country wants to govern the country in a muslim way what business is it of ours .
Viet Nam again??

I got dibs on the Martian's invading. Rather than live as slaves, we blow our rock to pieces and take as many of their invading forces as we can with us.

Here is a piece from an article on yahoo news posted 2 hours ago that has an excerpt from the new Secretary of Defense Robert Gates:

At one point Gates, just three weeks on the job, told lawmakers, "I would confess I'm no expert on Iraq." Later, asked about reaching the right balance between American and Iraqi forces, he told the panel he was "no expert on military matters."
