I want to know why our soldiers were sent to war without the proper equipment like periscopes which without them have caused many deaths why isn't it part of their required equipment? Why some of our soldiers (my son included) were sent and is expected to stay another 90 days to the Anbar provence without safety glasses and although it has been expressed by the soldiers long before their deployment and still nothing is done. What do we have to do to rectify these situations? Does our government purposefuly send our soldiers to do a job without the proper equipment causing many deaths that they feel they can justify? I'm a mother what do I have to do to ensure my son's safety?

Are you sure he's a soldier, or is he a marine? You can get mil-spec ballistic glasses (the same ones they issued me) for about 20 dollars. It seems like that's a more definite solution to his problem. I personally ended up paying about $150 for presctiptions because the army lost my order. It basically came down to whether I would rather be safe or whine about it.

echi - every soilder that is on a combat op has body armor.if you are in the rear in an office you get it if needed.
now you are worried about safty glasses? most troops buy their own goggles or sun glasses as they get better than issue.we have the best trained and best equiped military in world history.i was in the army 89-94 and let me tell you we had had a whole lot less than they do today.our body armor was not much better than in viet nam and we didnt have armored humvees either.i was in panama in 89 saudi in 90-91 and somalia in 93.our so called president then wouldnt even let us have proper air support or armor.and the reason we are having to play catch up in equipment is slick willies fault.he destroyed the military and was the reason i got out.

The route of all those questions is: MONEY.

There's not enough money to give every soldier full body-armour, even though the technology exists to produce it. Thats why the soldiers still run around wearing camoflage gear, and a helmet...

Have you tried contacting someone in office in your city to see what they think can be done about it? How about contacting someone over your son's unit and asking them what do they suggest in getting them the proper gear.
