We need to boost our defenses of possible threats other than terrorism. terrorists will never defeat America on our soil, but do we have what we need to protect from a western world power?

I don't support the war in Iraq, but I do support sending more troops. We must face that facts that there is no way to pull out instantly because that will cause a collapse of their new formed government. Why are so many people against the death of American soldiers but don't want more troops in Iraq? The more eyes, the less death.

Kurdestan, Iranian consulate.
The diplomats were guests of Mr. Barezani the kurdestans leader.
The U.S. military gunmen stormed the consulate by several helicopters from the roof top then savagely broke the windows,
and arrested the diplomats at 4 am at the same time that bush on
TV expressed the same "war on terrorism" !
Now can you see that U.S. repeated the same thing as the Iranians did in 1978 by envading the U.S. Embassy ! ?
Any opinions about this ?

Condaleezza rice said that winning and escalating the war in Iraq is in our economic interests, We already are close to 1 trillion dollars into the war. The cost to continue is 1 billion dollars a week. Most of our allies are withdrawing their troops and Bush wants to put more U>S> troops in. We have lost over 3000 of our men and women already , I think that it is time that our elected officials pull out of a war that even the people of Iraq don"t care about. I am a vietnam vet and don't want to see what happened to Nam vets, happen to Iraq vets

I see at the moment we have a lot of american friends on here. What do you all think of President Bush sending another 20.000 american troops into Iraq, possibly to die like those before them. Personally I think he as gone into a war like nam where he cant win.

Reason I ask is it looks to me like the more liberal fray of the YA community seems like theyre actually shocked that people are dying there and it seems like their entire argument for ending a war that could invariably change the course for the entire middle east. People have been dying there since before experts could document it. I mean people were dying somewhere in the world during every presidential campaign but it seems like people talk more because of the media coverage. Dont you think that it has a lot to do with the fact that youre getting daily updates on how many people die on the daily news? So why would it be better for you to kill someone because you and all your buddies get into a barfight because of an argument or get drunk and run someone over in your car but its not okay to kill people to insure that more people dont have to suffer?

Currently the U.S. spent 400 billion dollars for the war, lost more than 3000 U.S. soldiers, and Pres. Bush's just announced another 20,000 troops to be sent there. I support my troops and value their sacrifices to keep us safe, but do you think this will lead to second "Vietnam War", where we gained nothing.

Is there a difference between what is absolutely the correct thing to do versus doing what the majority of the public wants them to do? What if the politician is trying to do the correct thing (for the long term) but that is different than what the voting public wants? Should the politician do the right thing or what the public wants?

our family will move to eglin around jul 1 this year. thoughts on cities to check out (OR stay clear of) when looking for housing? we'd prefer a < 20 min commute each way (with traffic...).

are there any children's hospitals in that area (off base)? not all hospitals are staffed/equipped to care for pediatric emergancies.

we may still be there when our daugther turns 5 yrs - thoughts on school districts?

lastly - anyone have insight on midwives in that area? anyone do a homebirth there?

I was wondering, why are all of the third world countries using only russian military vehicles and weapons? For example, they use ak-47s, rpg-7s, russian grenades, russians tanks, russian apcs, and so on. Why? I can understand that the ak-47 is cost effective, but what about the other things?

I am in the Army and I just got back from a tour in Iraq. We asked for more troops then and we were ignored (my guess was because it was election season). Now, we are getting the extra troops and the Congress wants to play games with the money. What is up with this?

If you were given a choice either to go to Iraq or stay at your duty station/home...which would you choose.
Nevermind that it's your duty, what you signed up for, to do what you're told to do. I want to know your personal choices. Peace to all!

The people in those countries think that when they die they're going to spend eternity with Allah and 40 virgins etc. So surely killing them all would be doing them a favor.

Why should US and British troops continue to die for people who don't deserve to even be called human? They all hate us. The people in those counties have nothing to live for, they'd be better off dead.

If we nuked them, no more troops would die, but all the crazy Islamic nuts would die.
