Military - November 2006

This is directed towards the "men" on this site who argue politics back and forth all day trying to convince us that Bush is doing the right thing and the war in Iraq is necessary. (You know who you are)
Why don't you enlist? If you love your Country and praise Bush you should be fighting for him and what you believe in so strongly.
Years from now you can either tell your kids you fought for something you believed in or sat behind a computer in the safety of your homes and bashed other people's opinions on Yahoo Answers.

Where do you think the WMD all went to? We know they had them. Ask any Kurd. Sadam gassed men women and babies. We forget that once the Arabs stop fighting among themselves, they are "buddies" again! We have simply not shown enough force over there. Bust one dealers house and they move the dope next door. If one rocket fired at Israel was a dud and Syrian or Iranian script was found on it, the US should have attacked both countries.
The recent police action in Lebanon would have been over in a week if Hamas had no supplier. Iran gives hundreds of MILLIONS to those Syrian-trained, Iranian-supplied proxy-soldiers that simply want what we have and they don't. Part of it is a war between the have's and the have not's. The other part of it is that Iran has declared war on the West and is paying someone else to fight it. They hold up their hands and say "No blood on me!" Come on, America! Wake up to what is happening. We might not like the job of World Cop but we are stuck with it.

I have been a trauma nurse for 15 years....at least I thought I was until I saw what you all do. I would enjoy corresponding with anyone especially in the med field. I especially want people to know that we support and respect with the upmost of our being what you are doing. I believe I am too old 47 yrs. to help but sure would like to. You are in my heart. Emma

The simple fact of the Iraq war is twofold. It is the terrorist thing but also it's energy. Energy means oil. The supper you ate tonight came to the store in a truck that ran on diesel fuel. Suppose you went to the store and the shelves were bare like in Russia? Their crops rot in the fields because of lack of transportation. Also the keyboard you sit at is made from oil, as are the clothes on your back. The world depends on it to keep order and keep fed. What we are doing is keeping order in a vital part of the planet. Think of how the cops kick in the door of a house in a crack neighborhood and set up a police station. The other crack houses don't like it, they may even shoot back but over time the neighborhood slowly turns around. The house next door gets a new coat of paint and better tenants. The house next to it has its value go up. Order is maintained. If it is not maintained in the place that makes it possible for us all to EAT... Well hungry people get awful mean, don't they?

It takes about 6 months to train U.S. soldiers and marines - 2 months basic training - 2 months advanced infantry tactics, and another 2 - 6 months to become proficient with their weapons and equipment. Many of those serving in Iraq have much less time in service than the time the U.S. has spent on training Iraqi citizens. And according to the news reports, it's going to be another 12 - 18 months before the Iraqi army and police force have sufficient training, - I just don't buy that !!

Does anyone know where I can get an mp3 or equivalent of the paratroopers' song from Band of Brothers (the episode where they find the concentration camps, I believe, or just one of the later episodes)? I don't mean just a recording of that part of the video, i mean maybe a professional performance of the song, or preferably a real-life recording of soldiers singing.

The carnage in Iraq was umimaginable 4years ago. Saddamania was the rage and it seems being anything else was out of step. Its obvious the invasion did not liberate Iraq but immersed it in more misery. With benefit of hindsight shouldn't the US have considered other optionsto kick Saddam out? Was dissolving state institutions like the army and de Baathifying public service not turned out to be an albatross? Did the invaders actually bring social justice to replace Saddam's brutal repression? Can the world truly say the Iraqis are better off today security wise than they were under Saddam? May be the French and the Germans understood the internal dynamics of Iraq and the wider regional implications than US and the coalition of the willing. Iraq is a mess and likely to remain so for a long time if eventually ther ll be anything left of it.
