Yes, even with all of the soldiers deployed to other hot spots, we have plenty of troops here in the US that would be able to effectively defend this country against almost any invading force. I say almost because if China ever decided to invade, we'd be screwed.

Yes.
if you ignore the talking heads and got the facts, you would find out:
1. There are currently 2.6 MILLION people in uniform, all branches, active and reserve.
2. Any country willing to invade is going to try and take away some of our rights, this will inflame a certain portion of the population to fight, if for no other reason:
a. Any preinvasion assault will target communication(to include TV, meaning NO Lost, CSI, or Desperate Housewives), transporation hubs(you think traffic is bad NOW) and power plants. (whoops! there goes the internet!) add to the above number: + 275 million
(This being the United States, the remainder would not fight, even if a tank was driving through the living room.)
GAME OVER

(We'd see any invasion coming weeks in advance, but we'll pretend that somehow we didn't, and the invasion force has already landed with a gigantic force and taken significant territory.)
The invasion would be repelled within 72 hours (in the worst case scenario... it'd probably be more like 10 hours). Our military has 2.7 million troops, and only a small fraction of those are currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Due to its geography, the U.S., like Russia, China, Canada, Brazil, and Australia, is virtually impossible to take over without popular support.
We have a Navy and Air Force that could immediately cut off the supply and reinforcement lines of any attacking power in the world. Moving through Canada is too difficult to even consider, we're bordered on the east, southeast, and west by open ocean (a realm where we outclass every other power by at least 10-to-1), and on the southwest by open desert (a perfect place to use the Air Force).
Our citizens also own lots of guns.

I assume we have a situation like the movie "Red Dawn". It would depend on the size of the invading force. If China and Russia attacks from Canada and Cuba/Mexico then they would be able to split the country initially. America's main defense is her ocean and her technology.
It is assumed those two defenses would slow anyone down enough for us to organize our forces for a defense. Our Navy and Airforce are designed to stop transportation of enemy troops but they could be disabled (See Tom Claney's Debt of Honor).
Of couse any invasion would have to contend with the Southern US well armed red necks with over 200 years of hunting experience in the woods.
I would expect the West coast to fall into enemy control for a few years.

no matter what fox may tell u, the usa is far and away the most powerful nation on earth, mainly b/c of our countries strategic position itself (2 oceans on either side, and unthreating allies to our N & S), as well as our many strategicallly placed military bases, ships, subs, satellites, ect... all over the world. Actually, we are so powerful that multiple countries could get together and try to invade us, and we'd still be able to be the last ones standing. And that's not patriotism, thats just a fact of numbers, locations, and types of military skill we posses.
So, yes, we would have enough troops (or at least power) to stop the invasion of not only one, but many hostile nations.

Hahaha I had to laugh at your question not only do we have enough troops but look at it this way how many people do you think own a firearm? I know some people who have enough private weapons to arm a small country! Any country stupid enough to invade will find out quickly why it is the stupidest idea they could have possibly made.

Most base in the US are training or stageingStageing means getting ready to invade. The US has 2 things going for it when it comes to foriegn invasion the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Noone can cross either without out us knowing so invasion is very unlikely. Terriost attack on the other hand.....

Hopefully Americans would not want to be invaded and would take up arms. I would guess that every gangster would fight. Most of my friends are responsible gun owners and Love America. Besides there are still many soldiers here at home.

there is something called reserves, and the militia or and Act would be put in place to make joining the army mandatory. No developled country could possibly transport enough troops to invade another country in another continent

I would be making roadside bombs and detonating them under the invaders cars. I would ask terminally ill people to strap tnt on their bodies and blow the invaders to hell. I would Molitov Coctail a cafe that the invaders were frequenting. Get drunk with them and be friendly, then drown them in a river. Maybe hang the bodies out for display.
I love America and my family and neighbors that much.
I'm not a war monger but we are talking occupation of the homeland.
Anyway, thats what I would do.
