I am in the Army and I just got back from a tour in Iraq. We asked for more troops then and we were ignored (my guess was because it was election season). Now, we are getting the extra troops and the Congress wants to play games with the money. What is up with this?

The Democrats who want to cut the money would like nothing more than to see anything Bush has tried to do fail regardless of the human cost. Politicians ignore the troops because they are pawns. Politicians want votes. Everything they do is aimed at winning votes in the next election. The utmost goal is to get their party in power. Actually achieving their stated goals is secondary to that (the 100 hour BS, for example). Right now, the road to power for the Democrats is to discredit anything Bush has done in Iraq and convince the people that only the Democrats can fix it. Personally, I haven't seen or heard a single Democrat offer anything that resembled a plan for Iraq that didn't involve an immediate pullout. All they do is gripe about what Bush isn't doing. Even my four year old daughter understands that a total pullout would be a disaster.

You all should of gotten extra troops like 4-3 years ago. Now, It's not going to change anything. It's already a civil war in Iraq and I know this from military officers. Democrats and some of the Republicans want the troops to come home.
Oh, and by the way. Bush has been planning to cut 40,000 AF for the last 1 1/2 yr.. most of those people will be leaving this year. I guess, they'll be using more army to make up for the 40,000 AF cut

That was for the Mid term elections, now we are entering the run for the 08 presidential so a lot of political posturing will take place. Just as late as Dec 15 06 the Liberals leadership, were supporting troop increase suggestions. But unfortunately now since Bush has brought it out they will be against it, but to gain a political victory against the opposition and play to the far left base they now will try to block funding.

Really makes you wonder when the left wing pounds their chest about how they are patriots and proclaim "But we support the troops"....

I don't think Congress is playing a game, but they want responsible answers of how long we are going to stay there and what is the strategy to win this war that we started on false pretense. Hard questions will be asked this time around. In the pass if questions was asked you would be placed in the category as not being patriotic. So you had American people being afraid to ask difficult questions. Do you ever think about why you where in Iraq? Do you want your father, mother, sister or brother there?
We need Congress to ask questions and stop giving blank checks with accountability and the MONEY thing will help us get the answers to a number of questions.
