In 1968 while mounting guard duty at Bearcat Base, three of us where posted to a post on the berm wall. Sandbagged watch point with a bunker under the post. A buddy tossed his equipment into the bunker, a half hour later he went to the bunker to retrive something and encountered a Cobra with fully opened hood ready to strike. He shot the Cobra, and when the snake was dragged out of the bunker, and measured it was 11 and half feet long.

Snake and Scorpion bites were just as lethal as "Charlie". Not to mention the little life forms in the water.

Some probably did die from poisonous bites, but the worst would be the mental damage. Some guys would hear like orchastra's playing, even though it would be totally quite. Its quite sad though.
