No, you do not. And, even if there is not enough time on your visa to fulfill you contract, the government will make there be enough time so you can. The government you will be serving is the one that controls visa's in this country.

Also, they can get security clearances even if they are not citizens. The background check will take a little more time, but it is done.

I served as a radio operator in the Corps. All radio operators have at least a secret clearance. We had a Irish citizen on our platoon who had the same clearance we did.

Not for joining , but you need first a permanent residence in the US,(Green Card). If you apply for that they do already all the clearance check, medical check and so on.
After that you can join, but just with the Green Card, you also have to make an GED test, required especially for foreigner( if you are be able to understand the orders and so on, in English) .
After you got your Green Card, past the GED test you can join if you are passing the MEPS,that means passing all the physical and mental test .After serving for the military one year you apply through the military for your US Citizenship, that process is very quick !!You can go also to the website www.goarmy.com and email an recruiter, he or she can help you out with everything.
good luck, god bless

Yes you do! If you are not, then you must get one. But even if you get one you have to pass the security clearance.. Everything is taken seriously with the government. So you must come to the military or government appropriatley before being employeed.
