well lets see the short answer (yahell will raise hell if I give a four page synopsys of America's darkest chapter)

The civil war was a battle to preserve the union (north) to ability to govern ones self rights (south) . Many will argue it was over slavery. This is NOT true. Most southerners in the war were fightning for the south to prevent the "invaders" from taking over. A lot of them did NOT have slaves and the ones that did generally were too old to fight for the south anyway. The european countries generally stayed out of this conflict some supported the union other supported the south. The north had the industry while the south had agricutral products (which is why some european countries were with the south). The Union won because of this fact.

The more perfect union was that ALL of the states became one again after the conflict less perfect because the union really punished the south for the war (burnings and later carpetbagging) and it took the south decades to rebuild and because of a certain group that wants to rewrite history the civil war is still being fought TODAY (didn't change at all part).

The short answer.

Do you mean the American Civil War? The Vietnam war (which could be considered a Civil War.) The Russian Revolution of 1917?

Assuming you mean the American Civil War....

It created a more perfect union through working out some differences in the country albeit, in a childish manner that caused the most incredible loss of human life this country has ever seen. However, despite years of oppression through Jim Crow laws, and segregationist ways, amendments were added to the constitution creating a country in which all men were truly equal (in the eyes of the law... though state laws prevented it from being a truth for another century and women wouldn't be treated equally for another 60 years.)

It succeeded through the emancipation proclamation, one of Lincoln's greatest acts. It failed because even though America was one country by the end of the war, it was still a divided nation... Lincoln also had broken so many of America's own laws during the course of the war blockading the ports of the Confederate states (which he argued was legal because it was not a separate nation, though other times he would argue just the opposite.) It also failed to bring the people together as for a full century the southern states continued their racist, segregationist ways, and in some forms it could even be seen as continuing to the present.

A more perfect union was created because the country passed amendments 13 through 15, following the war... during the war, Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation, legally though not effectively... ending slavery.

But the country remained divided politically speaking and does to this day...

The civil war did not create a more perfect union, it just happened due to divided issues between sides of one country. It succeeded because it freed the slaves and opened up the opportunity to grow as a country.
The war was a failure of elected officials being able to work out differences in issues without using violence.

I think the civil war was really a test of the validity of the US government. Just like if a group of famous celeberties decided to drive drunk or rob a bank together. It was a war about proving that the law of the land really meant something.

More perfect union? Mainstream the money supply to on standard. attempt to standardize trade rules and regulation. establish the fact that a law passed in wash d.c. affected people in kansas and texas.

Civil war means a war between the civilians of a country and the military, You cannot just proclaim civil war without the consent of all civilian authority within a country and if the government could no longer take hold of the situation

I would say it brought the USA together on a political level, because, in the instance of war, Russia would not declare war on Tennessee (for example), they have to declare war on the entire United States. You also get Nationalisation of government, which influences fair play and competition for society, an entire country under one constitution. I really don't think it influenced the people of the US in a large way because of the slow turnaround in the south, and sayings that the South is Going To Rise Again and such. This is also why we should step back in Iraq, and let the Iraqi people carry out their agenda, and just be a referee who says, " Let's get it on!"

It created a more perfect union by the fact that after 4 years of the worst bloodshed ever on American soil, the union remained intact. We have Lincon to thank for that.
