I suspect some scientific / engineering background would be more helpful than English or History.

Physics or aeronautical engineering would be the most likely to get you into flight school.
And they are called Naval Aviators. Pilots don't have to land on aircraft carriers.

Egineering, definately. You'll eventually want to take a shot at NASA after years of flying missions.
