I asked my teacher, and she said because of 'freedom of choice'. Then I asked why people don't have the freedom to do things like pot and meth. She said because they kill people. Well smoking kills people, too, so why IS it even legal? I live in Illinois, and starting in 2008 you can't smoke in any public restaurant, on the streets, or while working. Still, people can smoke on their own property. So why IS it legal if it can be just as deadly as other illegal drugs?

Unfortunately I got my license suspened for DUI in Santa Cruz and I was under 21 so they suspended it for a year. However I have no choice but to drive to college. I would like to know if in the event that I get arrested for driving without a license would that year be extended even further in addition for impounding my car and giving me a $1,000 fine and some days in jail? I hate cops and if I didn't have to drive I swear I would't just to not see them around plus I think that its extremely unfair to be treated like a criminal for doing something I have to do. I requested a hardship license from the DMV but they were nice enough to reject it.

I went on vacation and told my daughter not to let her bf (whom I can't stand) come in my house. I found out that not only did he come in my house, but spent 3 nights there!!! We have had numerous problems with him and have told both him and her that he was not allowed on my property. Now that he has done it, is there anything I can do about it? How do I stop it from happening again? Legally.

Someone told me that it won't I was just wondering if they was lying because I know they ask the father in child support if he denies the child. So can someone help me out on this one.

I am a smoker and really think they are in overkill on this smoking ban. OK, I understand it in family restaurants, but bars or private clubs - will it be in private homes next? Give us a break! I am getting sick of seeing these commercials on TV about second hand smoke every 5 seconds. Yes, we all know that smoking is bad for you, but I think we've got so many more issues in this world to worry about. I personally don't drink and am not crazy about people having a few drinks at dinner and getting behind the wheel of a car when I'm on the road. Why not tax alcohol to the hilt? Alcohol kills too. Not to mention the vast amount of people on the roads these days have a cell phone glued in their ear. Talk about hazardous to your health! Was just wondering if anyone out there in states who have smoking bans agree or disagree.

If the landlord and I are doing background checks on each other, do we just pay our own fees or does the tenant pay for both the landlord and his/her own? And where do we go to do these background checks? And what about references?

Thanks

I have an old friend. He was broke, he asked some help.
So I gave him some money. About 1500.
He supposed to pay me back in few weeks. He didnt.
It s been a while now.
He says he still having problems but he ll pay eventually.
He also accepted to sign a document so I can sue him in case he doesnt pay in few weeks.
I said yes. Now I need to prepare such document.
So my question is:
Does it have a legal binding if its just between me and him?
Or Do we have to go to notery public?

The Federal Government has asked a California court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the ACLU in behalf of five men who claim they were flown to another country where they were tortured and interrogated. Acting Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Bucholz said that CIA Intelligence information would be jeopardized if the case proceeded.

Although the President claimed that the U.S. does not torture prisoners, this Detention and Interrogation Program, called the Rendition Program has gone on for years. Among other charges, it is stated that the government "falsified flight plans to avoid public scrutiny."

The five men claiming to have been tortured in a Secret Prison located in another country claim that they are not terrorists and pose no danger for the United States.

What I mean do you think the crime rate might drop if the citizen was responsible for the safety of his house hold and the people who reside in it or with him. AND THEN use the police as a back-up? What would that tell the criminal element??

I know things have changed recently ( for security's reason ).
But still I've seen questions posed and answers given which would make the Marquis de Sade blanch.
Yet, they get away with it, Buk never does !!
Could he sue. or is Yahoo above the law !

This is a long story, but I will try to give you the short version.
I needed a death certificate for my mom,who died in 2004, and called the funeral home to get one.The owner of the home told me he would be happy to send me one.Which he did. When I got it there was a request for a $10.00 fee.I paid the $10.00 and sent it with a note telliing him, that it would be in his best interest to let the customer know of any fees.He sent me my check back with a nasty note to me.I sent the check back to him with a letter of apology.I thought that would be that, but I just got my check back again with another nasty note.He wrote a big VOID across the check and told me he didn't want it.WHO'S RIGHT??Should he have kept the check??
