If the landlord and I are doing background checks on each other, do we just pay our own fees or does the tenant pay for both the landlord and his/her own? And where do we go to do these background checks? And what about references?

Thanks

The landlord only sends out a letter to the police to see if you have a police record.
Call the courthouse and ask this but i would say you would have to pay to check him out.

The landlord does not have to submit to a background check for his tenants. The tenant doesnt have to submit either. But since it's a requirment for you to get the rent, you have to make a choice. Let him do it or not. But the landlord is justified to make you pay for it. If you want to do a background check on the landlord, you'll have to pay for that as well unless he or she agrees to pay for it.

You each pay for the background checks that YOU perform. You go to the local police station to do them. As for references, just ask the landlord for them & the landlord will ask you. (Usually people give 3). YOU pay for the long distance calls that YOU make, & the landlord pays for the calls that the landlord makes.

Background checking is a service..just like buying shoes.
You ask for the service - you pay.
Ask a lawyer or social service organization where to go.
References ARE a form of background checking...

I am not sure about who pays for it but it is logical to assume that you pay for the check you conduct.

A reliable and good website that helped me when I needed to do a background check is the http://www.reversecellphonerecords.com. They are fast reliable and offer a refund guarantee.

That does take place, exceptionally in huge apple. what's going to possibly take place is the owner already has a company lined up and you pay the charges. sounds like if the owner has the entertainment of asking for this from you, you will be in a severe call for section. i don't think of the owner is cheating you, yet i'm useful he has varied solicitors asking for his property. in case you want to property undesirable adequate, you will do it. anyhow, it is not that he's lazy, purely the owner would not want to spend the money. i assume you could argue he's way less costly.

It's up to you both who pays for what but you can conduct both background checks and reference checks here: http://www.eFindOutTheTruth.com

Many jurisdictions allow you to search criminal and civil records on line or at the court house for free. You can also contact the better business bureau - free. I'm sure if you look there are many avenues open to you.

He/she can require you to pay for a check as part of the acceptance process (i.e. where he accepts your residence in his place). You aren't exposed to nearly the same risk he/she is and therefore should have to pay for your check on him/her.
