>Call the cops. Perhaps they (or the Judge) could arrange a nice house scrubbing party to help them sober up the next day.<

Well there are four paths you can take (I'm assuming US or country w/ similiar laws).

The first two avoid the law.

First, you could egg the little bastards back or the like. I don't recommend this one but I'm sure it would feel good at the time, so I'll mention it as an option. If you're going to do this, might want to target things like their cars if they own them, IE don't hit their parents stuff if you're wanting to send a message to the kids. They got a nice bike? A nice skateboard? They leave it out? Egg it. Again. I DO NOT recommend this, but you want options, I'm giving you them all.

Second is talk to the parents. Hey you'd be amazed, sometimes this works. Often parents don't want trouble with the neighbors, and some parents will do more to the kids then the law ever would. If you live in a conservative area, not a liberal one, parental discipline is often the best route to go. Keep in mind though if you want to use option 3 or 4 later, be VERY careful with what you do or say here. If you think the parents are the kind who aren't going to do anything, be brief, explain the problem, note what they say, and leave it alone. Don't cause a scene and risk breaking the law yourself.

Third, is go after them criminally for the misdemeanor or possible statuatory (sp) crime. Contact the police and file a report. If the police feel they have enough to go after them, such as because they're minors w/ a history of this kind of behavior, or because you have definitive hard evidence (example, you saw it taking place, it was a good field of view, and you can make out specific individuals OR you videotaped it OR you've got good photographic evidence combined with prior history on the teens), then that might be your solution there. Or if the party had alchohal or is simply out of hand, depending on your jurisdiction there might be local fines that come into play. Hey if the kids get slapped with a 500 dollar fine, that ought to send a message and many cities now do that to control problem teens. However keep in mind, IF the police are going to do anything, they'll probably address it right away. So if you take this route and nothing comes of it, you might need to go to 4 below.

Lastly you can go after them in civil court if damage was done, or for 'distress' related issues. This can get really complex though, and if you choose this route you'll need to at the least seek the council of a lawyer for advice (even if you go to small claims court on your own, you'll want some face time with a lawyer to prep you). Gather as much evidence as you can... photograph before cleaning, speak to other neighbors you're friendly with if the teens routinely cause distrubances and get statements, etc.

So hope that all helps. I'd personally recommend option 2, followed by 3 and 4 in that order, unless you know the parents already and don't expect much from them... in which case, go 3 then 4.

Where were the parents? What kind of relationship do you have with your neighbors?

Talk to the adults who live in that house. Be respectful, even-tempered, and assertive. Let them know you won't file a police report or take them to court if they agree to take care of the damage, and make sure it won't happen in the future.

If they won't, then go down to the police station and file a complaint. The police will keep it on record in case anything like it happens again, and may investigate it as vandalism. Nobody likes having police show up at their door!

Take pictures. Get a contractor (or two) to give you a written estimate for the repairs (that egg protein is tough on paint, isn't it? Can't just hose it off..). Go to municipal court and file a small-claims against your neighbor. They'll get a summons and a judge will make a decision. Take the moral high ground and your neighbor will respect you for it (and keep their teen under control.)

Walk over and hand them a sponge with a letter stapled to it. The contents of the letter says this: You had the party. You had the fun. Now its time to clean up the mess. I didn't order breakfast and neither did my house. Please come over and take care of the eggs on the walls or I will have to contact the police. BTW... you may have to repaint if you can't get the egg off. You have 48 hours to let me know how you plan to address this.

Your neighbor...

Then give them 48 hours and call the police. You showed intent to be a decent understanding neighbor and they have the opportunity to take care of business. If not, then nail them to the wall...with the eggs that they threw at it.

Call the police and talk to the owner of the house. That is vandalism and eggs will ruin the siding or paint on anything.
I would not put up with it- It will happen again if they don't get caught the first time..
good luck

I would talk to the teen and his parents. It probably was a guest but the teen and his parents need to be held accountable. Otherwise, who knows what could happen next time. It there is no response from them, i would call the police.

If he's living at home, talk to his parents. In order to get the police involved you will need some kind of proof that he did it.
