Depends upon the state you live in.

Federal law on assualt weapons have been allowed to lapse, However the NFA of 1934 is still in effect. If your ak47 is a "fully automatic" (fires more than one round with one pull of the trigger) then federal law require it to be licensed, a fee paid, a transfer tax paid and then you need to get the okey dokey of the local sheriff. If it is a semi auto (one round for each pull of the trigger) all one need do is pass the background check required by the Brady Law if you buy it from a licensed firearm dealer and fill out a form in which you declare you are are not a crook or a loon. No background check is required if purchase from a private party.

State and local laws vary widely, so you may or may not be able to buy, depending upon where you live regardless of whether the feds say it is ok

A true AK-47 requites a class 3 license to OWN. It is a fully automatic weapon. The class 3 license costs about $500 a year every year.

You don't need a license for ANY firearms here in the land of the free. There's a nominal tax on full auto variants of the AK (and a few other requirements), but that's about it.

You apply for an ATF automatic weapons permit. They will take your name, information and fees and in about 6 months you will get a letter saying NO! Then of course your phone will be tapped, your email monitored, your neighbors interviewed and your entire life entered in a database. Good luck the next time you try to get on an airplane.
