This is a long story, but I will try to give you the short version.
I needed a death certificate for my mom,who died in 2004, and called the funeral home to get one.The owner of the home told me he would be happy to send me one.Which he did. When I got it there was a request for a $10.00 fee.I paid the $10.00 and sent it with a note telliing him, that it would be in his best interest to let the customer know of any fees.He sent me my check back with a nasty note to me.I sent the check back to him with a letter of apology.I thought that would be that, but I just got my check back again with another nasty note.He wrote a big VOID across the check and told me he didn't want it.WHO'S RIGHT??Should he have kept the check??

You are right, the funeral home owner is a jerk. Don't send the check back to him.

Keep the check, don't dwell on it. I would leave the situation alone, besides we are talking 10 dollars. There is no right or wrong in this situation. I think it was nice of him to send the check back take it as a blessing and move on.

well- he should have just shut up and kept the check. the only reason to make such an embarassed effort to make a point to you that he doesnt need your check- is because YOU were right. People should always be notified of any requested fees, before the service is provided- otherwise it isn't fair and shouldn't be legal if it is. morals and ethics....... what if you were stark broke and couldnt pay it? then you would be embarassed through no fault of your own.....

At this point, does it matter who's right? Keep your money and let everyone you know know that the owner of the funeral home is an ******. I'm pretty sure he doesn't own the only funeral home in your area.

Life isn't always about who is right and who is wrong. He made a mistake and you seem to be letting your grief over the loss of mother distort your judgement as well. Drop it and move on, life is too short for this.

You were right, because what you have done is completely legal. You shouldn't send the 10.000 check though and going to find another lawyer. You should considerate that guy lucky for getting that check and he's an total idiot for losing a costumer. Don't feel bad and you were totally right. I'm on your side and that he will go to Hell for commiting this Sin! Hahahahahahhaha!

We would really need to know his POV but I would think that he should have advised you of the fee.
