If you were arrested, the charge would be akin to disturbing the peace since a homicide is the killing of ANOTHER. The instant defense would be insanity.. which means a trip to a mental institution, which is WHY attempted suicide is rarely charged. The end result of such a charge, technically, cannot be a prison.

In about 26 of the 50 states it IS illegal to actually commit suicide. (Pretty stupid....not like they can convict you!) In about 35 of the 50 states, it is illegal to ATTEMPT suicide. That is rarely prosecuted, but it does happen.

You don't get arrested, you get put into a mental institution! You cannot get out until a psychiatrist says you are not going to try it again, even then, you may have to have someone take responsibility for you! Not a lot of people want to take on that responsibility for another persons life, because this makes them liable if you do it again!
