He hasn't eaten since November. He looks healthy, but you can never tell with snakes. My boyfriend, who owns a snake, said he may have mites, which you can't see, that may take away his appetite. I've used live mice AND dead mice. I've emptied the mice in there, I've keep the mice in the bag to let him slither in, AND I've tried putting him inside the bag like I used to when he was young. None of it seems to work. I told myself he'll be fine; he'll eat before he dies, although my boyfriend disagrees. I figured he was in some kind of hibernating state due to winter. It's beginning to warm up; it's in the 70's now. Should I switch up his diet and give him lizards or frogs? Should I take him to the vet? It won't hurt to try something. If you put a snake in the mouse bag, the snake will lay in there, feel a bite or two, and attack. My snake got sick once from a bite, I guess, and we figured he got scared, which is why we started killing the mice. He actually ate a few dead, so we proceeded

I have a Black Chinese Reeves turtle in a 30 gal tank. I use a Fluval filter with sponge and ceramic cylinders inside. The manual says to clean it every 6 months.
Last time I cleaned it and filled the tank up within 4 hours the water became increasingly green with algae. The time I previously cleaned the filter I didn't have this problem. Usually I change the water in the tank and clean the rocks and algae out every two weeks. Lately this has also made the water cloudy with algae. After a 4 or 5 days it's clear again. Any ideas about what might be happening?

I need to know whether ordinary turtles (NOT sea turtles) like those who live on the land in dry climates (they are no bigger than ca. 25 cm long) can swim.
Don't their heavy shells cause them to drown if they try?

We have a red eared slider in a 20 gal. turtle tank. The filter says it can be used for tanks up to 25 gallons. We change the filter cartridges weekly, yet the water becomes cloudy after only 5 days. Any suggestions on how to keep the water clean longer?

I was thinking of buying a chick, can it be kept with my tortoise? its greek tortoise, and they are about 6-7 inch length, will the tortoise try to annoy the chick or no?

The tortoise Is kept outdoor,
P.S Does the chick will stay tame as it grow up to adult chicken? I will always interact and play with it while it is still chick, so it will think me as its parent.
But will it stay tamed when it grew up? or it will forget everything about the past?

His shell is nice and hard but there is a particular softness towards the area near his tail. Is this normal?

I am not sure of the name of the frog, it is not the normal white (albino) frog it is like a dark greyish color and maybe an inch long if that (including legs). I have had it for about a week but i am not sure what to feed it. I drop a cube of blood worms in the tank at night for my ghost knife and dragon gobi, and flakes of course for other fish, and i think krill pellets for my cats and stuff. Will it eat that stuff?

It's a Hermans Tortoise I took because the kid who bought it got sick of it. There has been a respiratory infection for a while but now I am not hearing breathing at all, no eyes open, no movement or response to touch. This tortoise was not in hibernation. I placed it under the heat light and now the head is out, but still it responds to nothing. I don't want to throw it out if it is still alive. If it is alive then what is the humane thing to do? If it is not dead it must be almost dead. I am grossed out and depressed by the whole situation.
