I have a younger snake measuring to about a 1 1/2 foot or more and after going to the pet store, where they only had very small mice or larger rats I opted for a medium or smaller rat. Bringing it home I had a chance to really look at my snake verses the rat and was alarmed at how much bigger it seemed then him though it did not seem so much so that he couldn't take it down. Well I ended up throwing it in the cage and the snake went for it immediately so no worries there. Unfortunately he went through what seemed a slow process to get the rat down verses other times and only got half down before spitting it back up.

My dilemma is this what is the appropriate size to feed him? If I cannot find a good size mouse for him to eat and end up in this dilemma again can I feed him twice in one week per the small size of the mice?

Also how far is a snake willing to go to feed? Will he force himself to eat a mouse is too big and potentially hurt himself? Will he exhibit warning signs if so

(I don't mean roll over). I've heard of them sitting on shoulders for a while, and even saw a video of one that would leap into the air to grab crickets from a tweezers. I just recieved a young one and had the notion. I know they aren't known for their stunts, but I was wondering what was out there.

Besides the money factor!
I have a 7" water dragon, Kai. Right now he's in a rather small enclousure but in about a year we'll be building a 16x8foot enclousure for him in our sun room. He'll have that and a little "dragon door" into his (soon to be built) cage in the living room, where he'll have access to UV lights and a ceramic heat emmiter. I realize that 16Lx8Wx9T seems a little crazy for an animal thats only going to be 3 long but... I want to give him the best life possible. Our painted turtle will also get a pond in the sun room thats going to be 16Lx5Wx3D. He'll have to share it in winter with my Koi, but other than that he'll be in heaven. The 6feet between the two enclousures will be for my russian torts at night and in the winter. I absolutely love making cages for animals, especially when I have a room thats about 20x16 ^.^ It will be expensive but it will pay off so much in the end.
*****I love my reptiles, so has anyone else done something like this for thiers?******

Ok -my daughter has 2 leo geckos 1 male 1 female .
Female is currently pregnant and she has been bullying her hubby so he has lost weight. I have now separated them and am wondering is there any way to help put his weight back on quickly. At the moment he is very lethargic and his colour has changed - he is darker than usual.
They are fed on live crickets dusted with calcium powder.

I was wondering if anyone knew if walnut branch is toxic to a Chinese Water Dragon. I know many people use crushed walnut shells for bedding, but would the branches themselves be dangerous to my dragon?

Also if someone has a better suggestion, let me know. Thanks!

My wife and I have a red-eared slider turtle that my wife got over ten years ago. He's always been fed by hand, and he has always been solitary...no other turtles with him.

Well, he used to be friendly. He would let you hold him in your palm, he would poke his head out and let you pet the top of his head. Great little guy.

However, over the past few years, he has gotten a bit ornery! If you try to pick him up, he'll retreat into his shell, and occasionally stick his head out and "snap" at you. If you look at him eye to eye, he pulls his head as far in as it will go, and keeps his mouth slighly open as if he is ready to bite.

How can we make him friendly again? Is there any method for bringing a turtle "out of his shell" so to speak?

We miss his being friendly, that's all.

I have two red ear sliders. One is getting pretty large and one is a little larger than a silver dollar. I just upgraded their tank from a 10 gal long to a 20 gal long. The problem is that once I moved them to the larger tank, after a water change, a day later the tank is extremely cloudy and smells like ammonia. I've have to clean the tank almost every three days which is a pain. I have a semi-submercible filter that is rated for 20 gal, there is not even 10 gal of water in the tank. I been using ammon block and additional water treatment products after every water change but the tank stinks and is still dirty after the water change. This never happened in the three years they were in the 10 gal tank. Are my turtles sick or is their something wrong with the tank?

i just got my 2 Australian Eastern Snake/Long Neck Turtles
ive had them for about a week and they are about a month old
there is alot of skin peeling off their necks. because they were stressed from moving houses they got those white spots which i am treating now. does all that skin have something to do with stress and white spot disease or is it just shedding?
