I was wondering if anyone knew if walnut branch is toxic to a Chinese Water Dragon. I know many people use crushed walnut shells for bedding, but would the branches themselves be dangerous to my dragon?

Also if someone has a better suggestion, let me know. Thanks!

I will assume you are getting the branch from outside your home if so you may want to consider soaking the branch in a weak bleach/water solution just to make sure there are no little pest that can hurt you dragon. rinse very well and let it dry for 5 days in a sunny dry area to make sure all bleach has evaporated then it will be ready to go. this is just a precaution. you should do this with branches and driftwood that you get from pet stores if they are not sealed i have actually seen a pile of driftwood with spider webs attached to them at a pet store. do this with rocks and other decore from outside. I use river gravel about 3/8 th inch for medium just because water dragons are very curious and tend to taste everything, also while feeding they will ingest unwanted things. impaction is a concern for water dragon.

no it shouldnt be toxic for them, you will be using it for climbing purposes i assume? that will be the best use for it. dont grind it up yourself or anything. i actually use a reptile turf, as they dont need sand, and i put the coconut fiber ( the stuff that expands 8x its starting amount) near his climbing branches and hiding spots, that is to increase humidity. also im just making sure you have his tank around 78-84 degrees and are using a uvb/uva bulb during the day and an infarread heating lamp during the night. also water dragons are omnivrous meaning they need the vitamines, proteins, and minerals from BOTH veggies and insects.... but avoide iceburg lettuce too many fruits
