I've never managed to get a reptile to respond to a name.

Probably not, but you can get its attention by a certain tap on the glass/floor. I have my turtle trained to get his food by tapping three times on the glass. He's also trained to go onto his ramp to get his food so I dont have to hand feed him or let it get icky floating in the water. My tortoise, Emi, knows when I'm coming in the room as opposed to my fiance. She'll go hog-wild to see me but she almost ignores my fiance. (She happens to be the only reptile that likes him lol)
There are a limited amount of things you can do with a reptile. Other than feed it and enjoy its breathtaking beauty, its kind of an 'older person's' pet. Note the little '' markies.
Anyway, there really isn't much you can do to train them to come to their names, they're like cats in a way. lol

Turtles can be trained to come out for food, but that is about it. You cannot train it to respond to a lot of things since they cannot hear.
