Besides the money factor!
I have a 7" water dragon, Kai. Right now he's in a rather small enclousure but in about a year we'll be building a 16x8foot enclousure for him in our sun room. He'll have that and a little "dragon door" into his (soon to be built) cage in the living room, where he'll have access to UV lights and a ceramic heat emmiter. I realize that 16Lx8Wx9T seems a little crazy for an animal thats only going to be 3 long but... I want to give him the best life possible. Our painted turtle will also get a pond in the sun room thats going to be 16Lx5Wx3D. He'll have to share it in winter with my Koi, but other than that he'll be in heaven. The 6feet between the two enclousures will be for my russian torts at night and in the winter. I absolutely love making cages for animals, especially when I have a room thats about 20x16 ^.^ It will be expensive but it will pay off so much in the end.
*****I love my reptiles, so has anyone else done something like this for thiers?******

lol we'll have a ton of money. My fiance is going to be getting checks from the guard and we plan on getting a smaller house, something we KNOW we can pay for our whole lives. Plus, All of my male family members(i mean ALL) work in some related field of work that could help with this.... How strange, yes?

Oh, and I was always thinking about converting the basement but I'd rather they can see the sun. I know UV doesn't come through windows, so I will set up a UV light for both of them over what they choose as their fav. basking spots. Thanks for all the positive feedback!

I feel so funny sometimes, knowing that my reptiles will be sleeping in a bigger area than me... But I guess thats where they live too. lol.

This sounds like a great set up to me except for one thing. It will be bright and warm and your animals will probably love spending time in the sun room where they can see outside - but UVB doesn't pass through normal glass!

Even though they will have access to a light and heater inside the house, they will probably only come inside when it's dark or cool in the sunroom. I'd add a super UVB mercury vapor and create an outside basking spot (should only need to be on part of the day - whenever it's "midafternoon"). Then it will be perfect!

That is AWESOME! Both water dragons and turtles generally need a lot more room than most people provide. Sounds like you're going to have some happy reptiles! When I get a house of my own I plan on doing something similar, and upgrading my reptiles to larger, more naturalistic environments... You've got some lucky animals!

Beautiful.

We've got a 20x20 thereabouts fenced in area with a pond for our (yes, we have permits so it's legal) alligator, 8x12x18 iguanatorium with two igs, a yellow-bellied slider, and two wood turtles. 9x14 or so box turtle and redfoot tortoise enclosure, and another smaller, about 10x10 for our (again, we have permits to legally keep) alligator snapping turtle. If you've got the right climate, outdoor enclosures are wonderful. I'm sure your dragon will be a very happy lizard.

sounds great to me I converted half our basement into a habitat for my frilled dragons. I am trying to get one of the kids to move out so I can convert their room into a chinese water dragon habitat. but i don't think I can get the kids out till they at least get into high school not that they listen more than the dragons do. my beardies and iguanas have free roam but they stay mainly in the living room in the bay window area I have set up for them sometimes my iguana will begin to roam and I know its time to feed again.

me personally i love to look at reptiles they are so fascinating to me, even though i use to have a turtle i dont anymore, i wouldnt build him such a big cage, but its ur pet, and if u love it that much u can spoil it as much as u want! so i guess it isnt that crazy, but if u are spending so much that u barely have monet left for uself then thats a little crazy!! w/e u do good luck !
