Jamie.. I do agree with you to a point... I would HOPE and one considering getting ANY pet would research every aspect of it before getting it so they do know the proper care techniques of EVERY animal they get!

I got my herps because I love them I couldn't care if anyone but other herp lovers ever see them. sorry I disagree jamie but I feel sometimes people use their own facts to bolster their opinions. I will be glad to say I am wrong but I doubt it.

Here is what I own:

3 African house snakes
4 nelsons milksnakes
3 el rosario rosy boas
2 thayeri kings
5 california kings
2 western hognose snakes
2 savu pythons
3 corn snakes
2 arizona mountain kings
2 mexican black kingsnakes
2 nicaraguan boas
2 bearded dragons
5 crested geckos

People who find out I have reptiles usually just ask one question: why? It's hard to explain the beauty of animals that don't have fur to people. Some people are open minded and want to come over to the house to see them, others don't. Once people see them though, they think they are cool animals, even if they wouldn't personally own them.

My wishlist of animals to own is way too big to put on here, but my top three would have to be albino hognose, green tree pythons and black headed pythons.

Jamie, exotic animals aren't just limited to reptiles, they also include birds, fish, monkeys, hedgehogs, and even some species of cats and dogs. The reason I am on Yahoo answers is to try to help people make educated decisions about reptiles, and to judge someone for owning them just isn't right. And if you personally own any of the above mentioned pets, that's just plain hypocritical. Don't judge us for owning something "different".

I have a water dragon named Kai. Right now he's in a rather small enclousure(we cant afford to make a huge fancyful cage) but in about a year(when he really needs it) we'll be building a 16x8foot enclousure for him in our sun room. He'll have that and a little "dragon door" into his (soon to be built) cage in the living room, where he'll have access to UV lights and a ceramic heat emmiter. I realize that 16Lx8Wx9T seems a little crazy for an animal thats only going to be 3ft long but... I want to give him the best life possible. Our painted turtle will also get a pond in the sun room thats going to be 16Lx5Wx3D. He'll have to share it in winter with my Koi, but other than that he'll be in heaven. The 6feet between the two enclousures will be for my russian torts at night and in the winter. I absolutely love making cages for animals, especially when I have a room thats about 20x16 ^.^ It will be expensive but it will pay off so much in the end.

PS- yes, I love my reptiles, specially my Emi (tort).

I've got 2 Mali Uromastyx, a Brazilian rainbow boa, Northern blue tongue skink, dwarf African bullfrog, red eared slider, and African mud turtle (P. castaneus) at the moment, and just lost a baby spotted python :(... Got a LONG wish list though, lol. Really want a mandarin rat snake, Egyptian Uromastyx, ornate Uromastyx, Rankin's dragon, and blackheaded python, just to name a few. Most people think I'm wierd when they find out I'm into reptiles, but anyone who actually meets them is generally very impressed.

I am the proud owner of 2 Bearded Dragons, The older one is Rocky he is six months old and the love of my life, then I have a baby who's name is Roxcy she is now one month old and still trying to tame her, but she is so beautiful.
I walk in the street with Rocky on my shoulder and the people especially the black people are terrified of him, but the kids just want to pet him, Roxcy goes with me to work everyday as did Rocky when he was still a lot smaller, every now and again I still bring him to work and the people love him

I have a beardie as well. His name is Oscar. We rescued him from a family of 4 children who did not take care of him very well. He is doing much better now, and he has completely stolen my heart. Most people fall in love with him as soon as they hold him. He loves attention, and will sit on your shoulder as long as you let him. I agree with one or the earlier answers abot people not being responsible reptile owners. They are a lot of work, and require a lot of time and attention. But, i wouldnt trade oscar for the world!!!!
