Regular 'river rock' is usually safe. it is the colorful gravel stuff that confuses turtles.

They will try to eat fake plants, but they usually are not abkle to bite off any part of the tough plastic plants- it is the more delicate plastic or fabric plants that cause problems when the turtles eat them.

You can also try to grow real plants- the turtles will still try to eat them, but they are good for the turtles and help keep the tank healthy.

ove couse u can but what u have to do is a get a tank and make sure u put the gravel like in a slant start from vry little then get more and more gravel and u go thought the tank where ur turtle is
now on the part where there iis less gravel put water there like a halfway but not al the way! leave some not wet space on the higher part where the gravel meets to ur turtle can stay there.if ur turtle likes to swim i can go in the water.i u think they will eat it. don tuse the smal thin gravel that looks like flakes use the smooth round medimum size gravel.like pepples or somthing.

I have a turtle and I use large size gravel in her tank. She sometimes picks them up when chasing food, but spits it out. A turtle swalling gravel and small rocks can cause major problems! In retrospect, I will probably change the gravel out and maybe put some river rocks in there. This way you will not have to worry about your turtle swallowing the rocks, but it will also make your tank easier to clean.

Make sure that the rocks are bigger than the turtles head. Otherwise they can be eaten and become impacted in the turtles stomach/intestines causing a blockage would be fatal. Its almost always best to go with river rock or something of the sort that is much bigger. Also, larger rocks are easier to clean around.

I have clean sand on the bottom. That way, he feels more at home. My turtle is really stupid, but he's never tried to eat a bit of sand. He looks at rocks on the bottom but then loses intrest and goes somewhere else.

If the rocks are too big to fit in his mouth dont worry. If they're small enough, worry. If he's as stupid as my Hachi was, he'll try to eat them...

Try the sand thing, its more natural and should only cost about $10 at most. You can get it at a hardware store.

The gravel have to be bigger or they might swallow it by accident, you know how turtle love to bite things, and they might choke by accidentally swallow a small gravel, so it has to be a bigger gravel. They wont eat fake plant but they might rip it into pieces if its a big turtle.

I have a turtle. I put gravel rocks in there and he kept eating them. I asked the vet what to do and she said to just put bigger rocks on the bottom. That way you can still have something in there and it won't harm your turtle.
