I have had great luck with both male and female bettas, white clouds, and blue paradise fish in untreated plain tanks in the 1 to 3 gallon range. Are there any other freshwater fish that can live in this environment?

So recently in my Aquatic Science class, my partner and I bought 2 pink kissing gourami. We have 1 big shell in the tank, 2 rocks, and 1 fake plant with an under gravel filter. Our tank is kind of small (30 gallons), but is there anything we need to know about these fish? I did some research but I couldn't find anything on decorations, so I don't know if what we have is ok or not. Also, how often should they be fed?

I have a 10 gallon, and a liquid testing kit. I'm trying to cycle my tank with just fish food (I'm using betta bites and freeze dried blood worms) to prepare for getting a betta. Ammonia hasn't seemed to change and it's been 3 weeks already. What am I doing wrong? Should I get a plant from a pet store to help it cycle, would that do anything? I was planning to get a java moss/fern anyway. I have noticed cloudiness, and the food that sank to the bottom seems to be molding? Help!

I have an empty freshwater 10 gallon tank with a heater, oxygen pump, gravel and filter. I have used this tank before and have kept fancy guppies and Mickey Mouse platys. I want different fish this time, about 2-3. Any ideas?

I had several guppies and a couple of other small fish that the fish store told me were compatible with guppies..last night we had just two fish left and one died during the night, so now there is just one fish alone in the tank (not a guppy, I can't remember the name). I put a mirror up next to the tank for now but will he be happy with just that? We don't want to get another fish because we didn't want to have fish anymore after these guys, but I don't want him to be lonely either, so would it be better to find a home for him that has other fish (that would make me sad too but if we have to, we have to)? Any other suggestions?

I just bought 5- 2"piranhas and a 75 gallon tank. I went to a fish store that specializes in wild fish. The owner seems like he has a lot of knowledge and experience with fish. My question is he said for the first 6 weeks with the piranhas inside the tank I shouldn't do anything with the tank. So no water changes. That's how he told me the tank will cycle and grow bacteria. But I've been doing research and I've read that changing the water frequently is crucial to the cycling process. What should I do? He said since the fish are small and inside a big tank the ammonia levels won't be harmful.

My fish has a fungal infection on his face and a bit of tail rot, I have been using Bettafix for 4 days so far, and my fish looks the same, I know the directions say to use for 7 days, or longer .

My question is, when do I stop uisng this medicine, do I stop using it when his infection clears up , or when his tail is in better condition? Or is 7 days of medication enough?

After 7 days of using this medication is it safe enough to put him in a tank with the other fish (with a divider)?

My betta fish is laying at the bottom of the bowl, she is a new fish and for the first 3 days I got her she was active swimming around, blowing at the other fish in the bowl next to her.

I wonder if she is cold. Her water feels very cold, for a tropical fish. I was wondering if I should get a 10 gallon tank with a water heater? Of course I'll use a divider and place the other betta in with her.

Do you think I shoud get a 10 gallon with a heater? So that she stays warm?

Why do you think she is laying at the bottom, her water is clean, and I feed her well.

I've got a strange problem here. I recently added a peacock eel into my tank which was bare. And just yesterday, my mom bought 3 carps and intend to evict my eel. They look rather large and i fear they may hurt the eel or eat up all the food before he has a chance.

So i've planned to kill her 3 carps, but it has to look like an accident. Any suggestions? Poisoning the water is out of the question (my eel is in there!)

I know the 1 inch per gallon. But neon tetras are so tiny. For example, two 1 inch neon tetras produce much less waste and are still much smaller than for instance one 2 inch platty. So how many gallons do these beautiful little creatures need. I want to keep the largest school possible in a 15 gallon tank.
