At what age/size will my red-bellies get their red bellies?

2007-11-18 10:31:57 · 1 answers · asked by Anonymous

I have 2 electric yellows and I just finally realized the smaller electric yellow is a male because his bottom and rear fin has black color.....before this week it didn't show the color.

my other yellow is also a male.....but is so much BIGGER than him, yet i got these BOTH at the SAME time and SAME size!

i kept thinking that the smaller one must have been a female, since females are generally smaller then males, until i found out today hes a male as well....and hes barely growing. when i feed them they both eat every time too and theres absolutely no bullying, fighting, their black top fin is as black as black can be.

so my question is, how come? how could this yellow be growing so slow.

picture quality not great but these are the two

thank you for your time!

I don't want to lug around 5 gallon buckets back and forth to fill my tank. Should I use the hose? I also heard of this product called a "python". How does that work? What would your recommendation be for water changes?

I currently have 5 female guppies, a male betta and 3 albino cory cats in my 10 gallon tank. I do water changes one to two times a week, about 30% each time, with gravel vacuuming. My tank does have a filter. Could I possibly get 2-3 male guppies in there? (Yes, I have other tanks I could use for fry: a 29, 5, and 2.5 gal.)

I have a tropical tank with the usual collection of communal fish and i'm considering buying a shovel nose catfish 15" long off a friend of mine who needs the money. Firstly will it get on with my other fish and secondly what would be a fair price for this fish?

A week after my old Arowana died, we bought a new one. After a few days, this baby arowana, started to lose its appetite and today, some of its scales started to fall off. There are also red things in his scales. I feel so sorry - I feel that I am doing something wrong with all these Arowanas.

Well, if you want to see a picture - you can look through the entry in my journal:

I need immediate help - I don't want another fish to die in my care.

I just bought him and he's the first pet for which I've been the primary caregiver. He seems ok right now, swimming around, which is nice because for the first couple of hours he just floated in one corner looking scared. How to keep the little guy happy and alive? (besides feeding him, of course.)

Oh, I have him in a 1 gallon bowl with gravel on the bottom and a couple of live plants off to the side.

A baby common snapping turtle, a few plants (fake), a few ghost shrimp, rocks (not pebbles), a molly type minnow thing. and i would like to put a small group of tetras like 3-4. Would i be able to do all this even if there is a carnivourous turtle in there. As long as they aren't dead their safe from the turtle. I put the molly/minnow fish just to check if the water is right. What would happen if my snapping turtle were to eat the neon tetra. the tank also is a 10gallon but a filter for a 20gallon +

Are there any great sites for setting up an aquarium? in the meantime, how do you syphon out the water when cleaning? when i was a kid i used to suck the water to get it started, and then it would work, but it was messy, and i would end up with a mouthful of dirty water.

my PLATY fish has been pregnant for 27 days that ive been keeping track for. is there any way that I could speed up the pregnancy. I really want the fish to be born. But idk if it wants to give birth in her breeding net. shes always bumping at it to get out of it. will she eventually give birth in it even tho she doesn't like it. if you could answer those 2 questions that would be nice.
