I have a tropical tank with the usual collection of communal fish and i'm considering buying a shovel nose catfish 15" long off a friend of mine who needs the money. Firstly will it get on with my other fish and secondly what would be a fair price for this fish?

do you comprehend how huge those fish get? i comprehend of somebody who geared up an 800 gallon tank so as that his shovel nosed catfish would be waiting to advance to his finished potential (and he'd get to maintain him some place comfortable for the fish on an identical time as that befell). The shovel nostril catfish can get numerous ft in length and the clown knife can get nicely over 18 inches. A fifty 5 gallon is merely 12 inches extensive (and four ft. long)

it is not the fish for you.
it will eat any fish smaller than it and you need a very large tank 300+ gallons.
shovel nose cat fish can get 4 feet long in just a few years even the 300 gallon may not be big enuff .

It will enjoy eating every other fish in your tank. But don't trust me,look it up on the net or maybe even in a book. These guys are major predators. And they require large tanks,75 to 100 gallons for a 15" fish.

ive had one of these fish b4. they are somewhat aggressive, and WILL eat smaller fish. only sutible for fish equil or bigger than itself that cannot swallow it. it also needs soft, slightly acid water but that is not too important. temprachures from 22-28degrees celcius. and it does not aceed 4 feet, the biggest one ive had was about 2 ft. they barely exeed 3 feet in the wild.

um, this fish can get 5' long and needs at least 200gall. you shouldn't but it for any more than $20 because it will cost you more in the long run because it needs feeder fish and very clean water.
