I currently have 5 female guppies, a male betta and 3 albino cory cats in my 10 gallon tank. I do water changes one to two times a week, about 30% each time, with gravel vacuuming. My tank does have a filter. Could I possibly get 2-3 male guppies in there? (Yes, I have other tanks I could use for fry: a 29, 5, and 2.5 gal.)

It sounds a little crowded in there, but if you manage to stick to your maintenance schedule and maybe even increase your water changes to 3 times a week minimum, you should be able to add 2 male guppies. It won't take long for you to get babies, so you may want to set you other tanks up so they have time to cycle. You may want to set up your 29 gal and use that for your community tank, and then use your 10 gal to birth and raise your fry. The 5 gallon tank can be used as a nursery tank for the female to recover after she has given birth. You'll have to monitor your betta, to see how this addition of fish affects him. If he doesn't like it, you can put him back into the 2.5 gal tank. Have Fun!

The answer depends on how well you manage the water parameters, you can have a lot more fish in there if you keep the water in pristine condition. This also means that if you get lax in your responsibilities the fish will begin to die faster and in greater numbers. So the point is;once or twice a week has to become twice a week for sure.
You don't mention the sort of filter you are using, but frequent filter cleaning also becomes more important as the population numbers increase. Filters that have a sponge element are easiest to clean when doing water changes.(Just remove the sponge and clean it in a bucket of water siphoned from the tank that it serves.) Another filter feature that helps as conditions become more crowded is the ability to occasionally insert a charcoal element into the filter,it need not be used 100% of the time, and should definitely be removed before thirty days have elapsed(if charcoal becomes overloaded,it releases all of the chemicals it has adsorbed back into the water).
All of that being said,I'd say the simple answer is "yes".

You can definetely get 2-3 more guppies. Since guppies are the widely know fish that breed a lot, I would advice no. Unless you have a tank to raise the fry or a tank full of fish for the babies to be eaten.

You are pretty much maxed out on the 10 gallon tank. If you want to keep males and females I would recommend moving them to the 29gal

3 guppies and 3 platies. i'd advise getting all adult males or all women. Livebearers have fry each and every 2-3 weeks. till you're a breeder (like me) do no longer combination adult males and lady, have faith me that's a mistake you mustn't make.

you can't put any more but maybe a male guppy (just one) even doing this you are floating with disaster. i recommend you don't. to breed your girls you could put them with the male in the 5gall and leave them for a few days. dont put them in until 24 hours after giving birth. just don't put the male in the ten he will be fine alone in the five. guppies don't get lonely.
feel free to email me with any more Q's!
