you can bypass the cycling process by taking media out of your excisting and established tanks
Just take gravel and water from your excisting tanks and put it into the 2.5 gallon
for the bacteria, just squeeze on of your sponges into the 2.5 gallon, and there ya go, you have a cycled tank

hope that helps
Good luck

Edit*
If your filter has a cartridge, just squeeze some media from an established tank in there

It depends. A friend of mine did it in 3 weeks the other 6 weeks. Since you have a small tank, I would just go with a fish cycling since their wouldn't be much different. And I can never wait.

You can use fish food and put them in the tank everyday, just about the same amount you feed your fish to start cycling. If you have ammonia test kits, then you can check on how the cycling is going. I would use a mesh bad or a stocking to keep the food in one place and keep everything together so when you get your fish, you can have a fresh gravel

I would also recommend that you get a filter for this tank and for the other tank you have.

Step a million: Wash all decorations and rocks properly, for demanding to scrub stains use vinegar and water as a cleansing answer, in no way use cleansing soap. be advantageous vinegar is washed thoroughly off and enable each little thing dry out. Ick lives in the water, so if all water is bumped off the ick will die off. Step 2: replenish the tank with water, placed new cartridges in the clear out, in case you had organic and organic filtration like a bio-wheel make advantageous it replaced into washed and dried out as properly. upload dechlorinator, enable tank to run with clear out for 40 8 hours. Step 3: ok you're decrease back to a clean tank - no micro organism - what I recommend to maximum of my purchasers installation an African Cichlid tank (by utilising that way be careful some Cichlids can arise to 10 inches) is to apply feeder guppies, or better feeders for better cichlids. i'm assuming you would be beginning with little ones so guppies are your maximum suitable selection, 5 would be reliable. Your cichlids will probable consume them while presented. The micro organism cycle often takes some week, while ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are all at 0 (in specific cases they seem to be slightly bigger) your tank is completely cycled. do not try it after 2 hours and picture that is cycled nonetheless! :) as quickly as its cycled upload your cichlids, on an analogous time as i'd often in no way recommend including better than 3 fish at a cases because of the fact cichlids are so territorial including all of them of sudden often supplies the main suitable consequences, after some month it is going to likely be their tank and that they won't be keen to allow new comers. it rather is usually a threat that your cichlids will develop into territorial and kill their tank acquaintances. I see you stated flora, cichlids LOVE plant life so which you ought to to steer faraway from stay flora.

Most tanks take about 24 hours to 2 weeks to cycle. With a 2.5 gallon, prolly a few days, and it'd be alright.
