My betta fish is laying at the bottom of the bowl, she is a new fish and for the first 3 days I got her she was active swimming around, blowing at the other fish in the bowl next to her.

I wonder if she is cold. Her water feels very cold, for a tropical fish. I was wondering if I should get a 10 gallon tank with a water heater? Of course I'll use a divider and place the other betta in with her.

Do you think I shoud get a 10 gallon with a heater? So that she stays warm?

Why do you think she is laying at the bottom, her water is clean, and I feed her well.

Go get that 10 gallon tank and a heater. Bettas are tropical fish and will thrive at temps between 76-82 ish. Plus she will love having all that room to cruise...

I've got two Bettas in a 29 gallon and they check out every inch of the tank, just in case somebody left a spot of food somewhere. I watch them exploring the whole tank and cringe at the thought of the bettas at the stores in the teeny tiny cups, in an inch of water.

The 10 gallon will be easier to maintain - only weekly water changes.

I'm sure she'd appreciate it if the water is under 76oF. Their temperature should be 76-86o.

You don't necessarily have to go to a 10 gallon if this is the only fish you have - I keep mine in 2.5 and 5 gallon minibow tanks http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3635102 with a 25-50 watt heater. The kit comes with a light and filter.

Of course, if you use a 10 gallon, you could get 2-4 more females (or other non-betta fish) to keep her company. Females can be kept together as long as they have 1.5-2 gallons each and you have at least 3 (5 is better).

If the water is too cold, betta's scale will pop up, Kinda stand up(sometimes looks like a skinny little puffer fish). If this happen, then it's a indicator that the water is too cold. Add in a heater, else, it might die.

Is the partition transparent...?? I think it is because u said "blowing at the other fish in the bowl next to her". If it is, then blowing for 3 days is gonna put your betta in stress, and its very tired. Try to flex your muscle in front of a mirror for 1 hour...and I bet you'll feel tired too.

are you using filtered water? Bettas don't need anymore than a gallon nor do they need heaters.

What did you get a pet for if you didn't bother to find out how to care for him or her BEFOREHAND?!
