To treat it, there are many commercially available antibacterial products for fish. Any of these will work in the proper dosages. To prevent this from happening again in the future, however, the best thing you can do is keep your water clean. If you Betta is in an unfiltered bowl or tank, you need to be siphoning the gravel at least twice a week to prevent the buildup of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. These nitrogen compounds are toxic (in declining levels) and are very stressful to fish. Healthy fish should be able to fight off bacteria without a problem. Sick fish are usually stressed from nitrogen compound spikes or water that is the wrong temperature (Bettas need water between 75* and 83* to be at their healthiest). Simply keeping your tank clean and warm will help your Betta's immune system fight off any harmful bacteria, and buildup immunity to bacteria it has already encountered.

Ick is a parasite that burrows into fish. As it burrows, the fish will display white pustules at the site of the parasitic invasion. Again, most healthy fish can fight off Ick, but weaker fish can easily fall prey. Keeping your tank clean is one of the best ways to keep your fish healthy. Contact me if you have any questions.

Umm...do you want to remove purifying(good) bacteria, or those harmful bacteria. Some bacteria are good and aren't suppose to be remove. If you want to remove some, you can install a UV, it will kill some of the bacteria freely flowing in the water. Or else, you might wanna go to a aquarium store and ask them. Be specific why you wanna remove those bacteria for. Or else, they might just say, "you shouldn't remove them, leave it, they are useful..."

You aren't supposed to kill the bacteria...a fish tank needs bacteria to control wastes. Get a fish keeping book and read up on tank bacteria cycling.
