Can somebody please tell me what the nitrate, hardness, alkalinity, and pH levels are sopposed to be? My nitrate is really high and so is my hardness, also my pH is acidic. How can I make my nitrate safe? Is there something I can add to the tank?

i have 3 fish in a 30 gallon tank. about a 5 and a half inch long oscar and a 3 inch oscar, and a kissing gourami. I just added the smaller oscar into the tank. I've decided to do so because the bigger oscar didnt seem to mind the kissing gourmai which is only about 1and a hal finches long. But ever sicne ive put it in, every time i walk away i noticed that the bigger oscar is biting the smaller oscar and harrasing them. The smaller oscar already has scractches around his body and i see a ripped tail fin. I know they'll need a bigger tank soon but i believe its not the time yet because there still to small. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop the bigger oscar from the smaller oscar. P.S. i had another oscar before in a smaller tank when i had 1 0 galln. The 51/2 inch oscar was about 41/2 and the other small oscar was about 1/1/2 inch but that one was bullied so much to the point it died. please i need some advice.

My parents have a hexagon shaped tank in their house and they stock it with fish that never seem to live as long as they should. I would like my parent's tank to be the best that it can be for the shape that it is and when I learn knew things I pass on the information to them. I've been interested in the art of fish keeping and aqua gardening for about a year now and I've learned a great deal since I first started the hobby. I was thinking about the aquarium at my parents house and I wonder what species of fish would thrive best in a hexagon shaped aquarium because I know its a very unnatural shape for the aquarium environment. Do you know of any fish that wouldn't mind living in a tall hexagon aquarium? Please also tell me if you have any of these fish, how old they are, and if they've grown since you first got them.

A few months ago I started up a fishtank I have had since I was a kid. Its a 30 Gal Completed the cycling process. I have a HOT magnum marineland filter with a large BIO wheel. More than enough for my tank. I put a couple pieces of driftwood in the tank as well as tons of plants, over time. My tapwater is extremely stable with a PH of 7.0 The driftwood and decaying plant matter has dropped my PH off the test equipments range. Its below 6 and I dont have anything to test lower. I have added PH up daily for over a week and have done at least 25% water changes and VERY thorough cleanings every week. I know that a low PH is normal and everyone says stable is better than adding chems but I dont know if its stable! I cant even test its level I am extremely worried even though I have only lost a couple fish since starting the whole cycle months ago. I dont want to give up my driftwood but some of my fish prefer a 7.2 How can I safely get my PH closer to 7 without shocking the fish?

My guppies, both adult and fry of all ages are repeatedly striking off the bottom of the tank and the ornaments. There is no signs of white spots at all, and I can rule out ich entirely having seen it before. What else could it be? Is there any reliable non-chemical ways of treating it? If not what chemicals do I need? Do I need to remove carbon filter for this?

NB My neon tetra's do not seem to be affected, and these are the only 2 species in the tank

Im gonna be getting 2 bettas soon. I feel really bad about where they live. So im gonna get a 2 1/2 tank with a sponge filter in it. I got some questions. 1) Should i cycle the tank? If so, Should i get a cory in addition to the betta so i can use the cory to cycle the tank? How long will the cycle take in this tank? And should i continue to do 20% water changes like any other tank? 2) When i buy the betta, what should i look for? Im not sure what a sick betta looks like except the basics such as fungus, spots, rotting fins, But whatelse? Im kinda newb to bettas now but i know how to take care of them. Just not aware of diseases. Thanks
