It's not about days, but about weeks

You could do a fishlesscycle with fishfood to speed up the cycling process

If you would put fish in when it's cycling, you will need to do 10% waterchanges daily do keep the ammonia in control and your fish alive

The hardiest fish you can put in there, which most likely would survive the cycling process are zebra danios

your tank will go through the so called nitrogen cycle, which means nitrite will be converted into nitrates

If you have test kits, you will observe a spike in ammonia and nitrite, then they will go down, and you will observe that you get readings for nitrates
In the end, you're suppose to have nitrite and ammonia at 0 and nitrates below 20ppm

Hope that helps
good luck

Rule of thumb, takes about 6 weeks, depending on size of tank.
Its needs to be cycled 1st.i.e. all the bad stuff in water is out and the filter as built up good bacteria in it.
Ammonia and Nitrites Kill fish, these need to be zero in your tank and the good chemical NitRAtes just be in your water.
I believe in the States there is a Product called Bio Spira which helps speed up the cycling process of tank. You dont say if its cold water or tropical. Sorry cant help you more, really need to know size of tank. If a small tank about 3 weeks, long as you do mini water changes.

i was alway told that it doesn't matter just make sure that the water sits in the tank for a whole day so it can become room temp. and won't koll the fish
