* They are called Siamese fighting fish!*
"The male will only kill the female if the female is trying to eat her own eggs (as they sometimes do). The male's job is to protect the eggs, and if it means protecting them from the female, so be it. "

They mate in the same tank, but before they are placed together, a conditioning process must be carried out on both fish. This conditioning involves placing the female into the breeding tank (that holds the male) for a short period of time every day; the female must be in a hurricane globe and lowered into the tank so the fish are able to see each other, bu not come into contact with each other.

This can take anywhere between two weeks and two months. When both fish are conditioned, they can be placed together, but only for TEMPORARY peace. They will tolerate each other for a short period of time; usually enough for the spawn to take place. Once they have spawned, the female must be removed from the breeding tank, or else aggression will resume.

You must condition them for at least 2 weeks on very high protein food, before attempting on spawning them

The best way to go is as follows:
bare bottom 10 gallon tank with 6 inch of water
heater with the temp set around 80 degrees
live plants and a styrofoam cup, where the male will blow it's bubblenest under
the male betta in there
the female put into a bowl, and this one put into the breeding tank

the following article will show it to you in videos and pics and more detailed info

Hope that helps
Good luck

if siamese fighting fish is what you want to breed, you have to place the female in with male, he will then build a bubble nest , do his flkaring and flirting, and when she is ready she will give in from his chasing, then he will wrap himself aroud her and mate, she will drop the eggs, then he gathers them up. when mating is finished, you must take the female out straight away, he will kill her. he becomes the mother of the eggs ect. thats how Betta`s mate.
