It would really appreciate it much more than the crappy bowls that most people give their Bettas (that rarely get cleaned). If you have a female Betta, you could keep 3-5 in a 10 gallon. Females are generally fine with each other (as long as there are 3 or more) as soon as they establish their pecking order. Never permanently house male Bettas with other Bettas (of any sex) unless your tank is about 55 gallons with a lot of plants and decorations.

If you wanted to add different fish (non-Bettas) to the tank, look for peaceful, slow moving, fish with small fins. That means avoid fish like Tiger Barbs that are notorious nipper and avoid fish like Fancy Guppies or Angelfish that have long fins (Bettas can mistake fish with long fins as other Bettas, leading to fighting). Good fish to keep with Bettas are Minnows, Cories, Otos, small finned Tetras (Neons, Cardinals, Phantoms, Head and Tail Light, Red Eye, Lemon), Rasboras, Kuhli Loaches, or peaceful Barbs (Cherry, Gold, Rosy, or Checker). Sure! Alone, yes. The more water the better, and that goes for any fish.
