Actually star scream, the dinosaurs in jurassic park changed sex because vital dna was leeked into their drinking water and it is proven fact that barramundi are all born males and after 3 years they enter salt water and become females..so it aint all just frogs

That is actually very possibly true... If the sex ratio is too far off to keep their line alive, certain livebearers (like Platies) are THOUGHT to have the ability to change their sex to help their genetics survive. This has not been proven, and the information is still conflicting, so it looks like your question wasn't so dumb afterall...

First there are no dumb questions . We here to help.I been keeping fish for 40 years and I never seen a livebearer change sex.Now in saltwater , Damsel fish do ,they all start out female ,one becomes a male if he dies another female will become a male , I have seen very old platies and mollies where the females started to look like a males but they were NOT fertile . You keep asking questions ,keeps my brain going !

Well, I don't think it is a stupid question. I have seen it happen. Only it was a tank full of females and several one day were males. I don't know if they changed sex or if they just hadn't grown their tales yet. (these were sword tails) I was told by experts that changing sex happened more times than we know. I also had a tank full of female mollies that did the same thing. So the fact that you are asking if platys can do this makes me think that yes it does happen. I never was certain that it had happened. I thought I had just mis sexed them.

I've honestly never heard of that happening and would be interested if anyone here can provide some good answers! I do know, however, that many livebearers appear to be females until they reach maturity. This could by why many think they change gender maybe????
BTW, not a dumb question at all!!!

Some frogs and other reptiles can change their sex to attan balance that would allow maximum reproduction. I don't know about this particular type

Thats what the dinosaurs did in Jurassic Park to reproduce. All I know in reality is that only frogs can do that.
