If by "neons fish" you mean Neon Tetras (a small fish with a blue and red stripe), the answer is no. Goldfish are coldwater fish and Neon Tetras are tropical fish. Eventually, the Goldfish will also reach a whopping 1.5 feet where they can easily eat a 1.5 inch Neon Tetra. If you want Goldfish, get them a pond and keep your Neons in a 10 gallon tank.

Soop Nazi

EDIT: Tinfoil Barbs and Rainbowfish are also tropical, so they shouldn't be kept with Goldfish either. For such a small tank, your only option is some shrimp. That is too small for any fish to live comfortably. Look into Ghost Shrimp, Amano Shrimp, Red Cherry Shrimp, and Singapore Shrimp. They are fascinating creatures that are much more interesting than a boring school of mindless Neons or a miserable Betta.

Can you? Yes, but will they survive? No. Goldfish produce massive amounts of waste. They should only be placed with other goldfish. Comets are actually pond fish because they grow so large. Goldfish require more room than other varieties of fish. Each Goldfish needs 10-20 gallons of water each, and needs more oxygen, no less than 30 square inches to each fish. They will produce large amounts of waste material and can add to the ammonia level in the system which can be very detrimental to other tank inhabitants. Goldfish do very well in cooler water while Neons are tropical fish and thrive in water that is between 76-80F.

Comets are cold, hard and neutral water fish. Also they grow to about the size of trout.

Neons are warm, soft, acidic water fish. They are small, schooling, amazon tetra's which should only really be mixed with other amazon tetras.

So, no, this is NOT a good mix if you want both to be happy and healthy.

If you REALLY want to mix comets with something other than comets or koi, try tin foil bards or rainbow fish. Keep in mind, when pairing goldfish that each type in the same tank should all have the same number of fins and tails.

Good Luck!

If you mean neon tetras. No. The gold fish are coldwater fish and the neons are warm water tropicals from South America.

goldfish and neons can not live together because of their levels of agression, but because of their different habitat needs.
goldfish require a much colder temperature then other tropical fish such as neons
