I have 2 tanks, both filled with goldfish and pleco, the only difference is that one tank has a bigger goldfish and a bigger pleco. In the big tank, the pleco and the goldfish seem to get along fine, each one minding their own business. But for the small tank, the pleco just run off to the corner near the filter and it rarely comes out. I don't see the goldfish pick on it or anything. Can someone tells me what's is the problem here? Is the goldfish bullying the pleco at night that I didn't see?

like they would a dog or cat? My toddler accidentally overfed a family members fish and they all died!! I feel so horrible and I'm soo embarrassed. They had about 5 or 6 tropical fish that I want to replace. In my previous question tonight I was asking about how much these kind of fish cost - I'm clueless about fish. I'm going to send them an apology card ( I already apologized profusely in front of them and punished my son ) and a gift card to a local fish store for $100. Do you think this is enough money? Do people get ttached to their fish to the point where they feel they are irreplaceable? Sorry, told you it was sort of a stupid question. Thanks~

I set up a 10 gallon with a whisper power filter, it's between 80-82 degrees, and I bought four fish two days later: one black neon tetra and three glolight tetras. I also put in some fake plants because the store didn't have the ones I wanted in stock. Today (two or three days after the fish) I bought a red slate rock and four plants (I don't know the exact names, the guy who knows about plants wasn't at the store today) and put them in. Two look like amall grassy types and one is fluffy and bright green and another is more of a red-brown-green with wider ruffled leaves.
My fish don't really seem to be eating, they just nibble at the flakes that fall to the bottom once or twice and then seem to lose interest. They don't swim towards the top of the tank to eat and they kind of just hide and stay close to the bottom.
Are they ok? Should I make a homemade co2 thing for the plants with yeast? Should I add more fish or plants? Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Thank you for any advice!

Just looking for a ball-park figure. Not the most expensive or the cheapest, middle of the road.
Thanks!!

We saw a school of them with rainbow-like colors, "digging" and fiercely protecting holes in shallow water, where they might have been laying eggs.??

My two fish, I think one is common and the other a comet... or maybe their both comet but I don't know when they'll breed or how! Books I"ve read say during spring and summer but at what age? And how do I tell that a female is a female if I don't know how big they're suppose to look. And how do I tell if my fish are males or females if one is a white one? Will they mate in the small one gallon cage or should I move them to the bigger tank to get ready to breed then when they lay their eggs put them in the small tank for a while until the small fish hatch? What if I don't notice a fish lay eggs and are the eggs to small to see just by walking by. Can the eggs be layed on a plastic plant, and what if my fish never breeds. How will I tell what they are then? I know I'm asking alot but I need to know. Thanks to all who answer =)

i've had the entire set up since May 1st '07. It is a clear gallon size glass vase, with glass pebbles in the bottom, & a plant on top. I used pure spring water, & have placed several air holes around the plastic tray that holds the plant on the top. I feed him regular Betta food no more than 2x a week. He seems to be ok, but likes to stay at the top of the vase. I'm just wondering why?

While digging in the garage, we found four or five bottles of aquarium dechlorinater. They don't have an expiration date, and I was wondering if dechlorinater even expires at all. I can't tell you how old this stuff is, but it's more than five years.

I want to provide him with some movement in the water plus I like the way it looks too. The pump I have hooked up to my skeleton guy is really for a 5 gallon tank. Do they make a pump for a 2.5 gallon tank and would it make less air bubbles so my fish can not be distured so much. Right now I have the bubble thing turned off, but I really like my skelton guy and wnat to start him bubbling again. Any suggestions? Would strong bubbling water be ok for goldfish?
Thanks.

I have a 30 gallan fish aquarium and I filled it with hose water. Should I put the fish in right away or should i wait until the chlorine evaporates? The water smells like bleach and the tank has little bubbles.

I have a guppy that's been trying to die for literally 4 days. I've been waiting and hoping it would just give up the ghost, but it's not. It's bent in a stiff S shape like it's been broken somehow. There are no marks on it and it's the only one in the tank like that. It lays on the bottom on it's side, it's not able to straighten out or swim...It's absolutely pathetic and I'd like to end it's misery, but I want to do it as humanely as possible. Any ideas?
