I just got a female betta from Walmart. She has not eaten in the 5 days that I have had her. I have tried freeze dried and flake food. She nibbled slightly on the freeze dried but not the flake and only spit out the freeze dried.

She has a grayish white strip down her head and has been lingering at the top of the water. The problem is that I think she's been sick since I've had her so I don't know normal coloring for her. I just gave her ick cure 2 days ago and she is now darting around the enclosure. I put her in an open bag in the tank so the water temperature could be regulated and so she would not infect the other fish. I have a male betta in the tank. She has vertical "mating" stripes on her sides now and is doing nose dives at the bottom of the bag trying to get out I think.

Should I be patient and wait for the medication to work or should I start freaking out and try a different medication?

Does anyone know anything else that could be wrong except for ick?

I have a breeding tank set up and feed the fry to bigger fish in my other tank. My dad told me not that such an idea was terrible. I found it ironic that we had hamburgers for supper but he claimed that "It wasnt the same". HEELLLPPP

I have 3 kuhli loaches, and a betta in a tank together. The loaches are feed a sinking carnivore tablet and algae tablets. most of the tablet is eaten each day, but if I gravel vac each day I end up doing a 20% water change, which is not necessary.

Are there any tricks to cleaning their mess without the massive vaccing?

Should I feed them every other day instead?

And how long can remnants stay in a tank b/4 needing to be removed?

Thanks

How do I clean a bubble wand?

When I first installed my bubble wand, it gave out lots of bubble streams. Now it's down to two or three bubble streams. I tried pulling it out last week to wipe it down with a cloth, but it still only gives out two or three streams. Does anybody know a good way to clean those things? It's about 18 (or 24) inches long.

I had asked a betta question a couple of weeks ago and got some detailed information from Magicman (I will include a link to that resolved question in details so that you can refer to it for more details if needed). Basically, my betta has a stringy-looking thing hanging down from under it's head. Actually it's a little farther back from the head, before you get to the fins.
I grabbed some tweezers (sanitized) and managed to pull some of this stringy stuff off (not all, though). I'm not sure about how long it is, but I managed to get about 2/3 off. My questions are:

1. What is it and how do I treat it?
2. How do I get him to stay still so I can try and get the other piece off?

I had come home on my lunch break and saw it, but I did not have enough time to check everything about the tank. The water parameters have been good for the last few weeks since I introduced my last fish (a dwarf gourami). Temperature is 78 degrees. Water changes about every 3-4 days.

I recently planted a few live plants in my 10gal freshwater aquarium. I've read that having an air pump can dissipate the CO2 that the plants need. Should I only operate it for certain amounts of time during certain times of the day/night, or should I stop using it while I have these plants? Thanks!
