ok...my male beta has had enough time to settle down but he's not. he's hyperactive, hasn't eaten since i got him almost a week ago, his food rots at the bottom, i got three kinds of food and he has only eats a few freezer dried blood warms (i have a plant in there and he seems to like it. does he eat the roots?), and even if he did wouldn't he also need a differant diet? He seems to want to get out even if there are no reflections around. He can c the female in the bowl him but after flaring at her a couple of times he's like tottally ignoring her seeming to want to get out on the other side. Female eats lots and is active. Now what should i feed HIM!? or how so that the food doesn't pile up and rots at the bottem. he doesn't touch pellets or flakes. how many days can he go without food? HELP!! (at least he's active...if that is a comfort at all cause he might stress himself out.:s)

Can bettas and croaking gouramis live in the same tank? I have found very different answers to this online. Some say yes, some say sometimes, others say never. I know bettas can live in community tanks as long as there are not fin nipping fish, but I do not know how they fair with other gouramisI know that bettas are a gourami, and that some gouramis can not be kept together. I also know not to put two male bettas together. But I dont know if the male betta will be okay with my croaking gouramis.

I have two male and female betta fish. Both fish are condition. The male has been making a bubble nest and the female is full of eggs. I put the male in a 5 gallon tank for a few days I also put there tanks side by side so they can see each other then I add the female. The female flares at the male and the male flares back and tries to bite her. She runs and hides. But the male never stops attacking her. He always bites the heck out of her. So I aways take her back out. Also I have tried Using different females and the same thing happens. What should I do to stop this from happening. I really want to breed them!!!

I bought them a week ago and attributed their shyness to their new surroundings... but now it's been a week and they still don't come up for food or even swim around. They are probably eating bugs and whatnot to survive but I haven't seen it.
Sigh... I was hoping to sit by my pond and watch the little buggers swim around all happy like. Is this just their nature or are they unhappy?
I have two 4 inch koi in a 500 gallon pond... big filter and bacteria added weekly. What could I be doing wrong?

I've had 5 gouramis for the past couple of months (used to be 6, but one died right away). A couple of days ago, my golden gourami developed wihte patches on its scales, and something appears to be eating at the tissue on it's dorsal fin. It's also swimming erratically, not really eating and breathing heavily. Seriously, this seemed to happen overnight! I figured that something was wrong with the water, so I tested the pH yesterday, which was pretty low. After getting it to neutral, I thought the patches were disappearing, but more of his fin is gone today and it's still acting funny. The fish get along, so I don't think its being bullied or getting nipped at. The other fish are also unaffected.

Will I be able to save my fish? Whatever this is, is it something that the other fish can contract??

P.S-this is my favorite fish :-(

i want to get a 15-20 gallon tank. All the ones i've seen are VERY expensive. i think the highest price i would want to pay for a tank would be 40-50 dollars. if i can't get a tank between 15-20 gallons with that money, then what size would i be able to get? I'm trying to deside what kind of fish i want, but i need to know what tank size i am getting first. thanks:)

My beta fish hangs around the bottom of his aquarium all the time. If you feed him he will swim up and eat or if you tap the side he will get startled and swim but usually he just sits...is he sick or what? We just got him a month ago!

I just purchased a used nano reef with no fish but some live rock and sand and some almost dead polyps and mushrooms. The tank comes with everything but I need some advice on what I will need to get the evnironment at a livable level. I am new to this but I am a wildlife biology major who has a lot of interest in marine life. Any help would be great and I am trying to keep it simple at first. I don't really want to dump a bunch of money into it right away.

I have a Ritteri anemone and I read that it can completely retract itself into its base but I just got it 2 days ago and now it is all slimey looking like it has a coating of slime and it was still moving yesterday but it does not seem to be as much or at all today. Is it dead? Or just being itself. I have another anemone but it is not the same type and it moves all the time,

I feed my betta twice a day. Freeze-dried bloodworms for breakfast. Thawed frozen foods Bloodworms or Brine Shrimp for dinner. I don't feed him flakes because he has trouble eating them.

I know the betta pellets are the ideal food for them, since it gives them all the nutrients they need. In fact my sister's betta died recently after living 7 and a half years - which above the average life expectancy! And all she was feeding him was betta pellets. But my betta simply can't eat them because they are too hard for him to chew...he developed the habbit of not even touching the pellets.

Anyway, is the current diet enough nutrients for my betta? He seems healthy and active, but I want him to be super-healthy to break my sister's record.

my girlfriend wants to buy her teacher a tropical fish when she leaves school on friday, just as a cool present. I'm gonna find out what fish he already has and find out what would be compatible, there's people at the store which can help with that, but the main point is, when actually buying the fish, how long can we keep it out of the tank safely? will it need any special conditions, as a pose to just a plastic bag?any help appreciated, and feel free to give me any other advice you think would help.
