How do you know if your anemone is dead?

I have a Ritteri anemone and I read that it can completely retract itself into its base but I just got it 2 days ago and now it is all slimey looking like it has a coating of slime and it was still moving yesterday but it does not seem to be as much or at all today. Is it dead? Or just being itself. I have another anemone but it is not the same type and it moves all the time,

Zip's got it right. There may also be some differences in the water chemistry from the store to your tank that it's adjusting to. The only real cause for concern is the other anemone. Besides stinging, anemomes also have a kind of "chemical warfare" way of protecting their immediate area. Not bad if they're in the ocean, but in a tank the chemical levels can accumulate. Keep an eye on both for a while and keep them separated (and hope one doesn't decinde to move too close to the other). Carbon can help remove the chemicals they produce.

Ritteri anemones melt into a smelly glop when they die. If the slime coming off it is clear and the body looks to be intact, it is probably expelling waste. Anemones usually move to a location where they are exposed to heavy water current. They will also squeeze all of there water out and compress occasionally - this is normal.
