As a matter of clarification, I live in Georgia and my boyfriend caught a bass in his grandfather's pond and we put it in our aquarium with our alligator gar (he bought the gar from a pet store a year or two ago).

It depends on where you are taking said fish from. Usually not...Unles you are on your own private pond/lake whatever or one someone's that you have permission to be on and to fish/take fish from.

That would depend on your state's fish and game laws. You might be able to keep it as long as it was caught with legal methods, is of "keepable" size, and you have a fishing license. Otherwise, you might need a permit to keep it because it's a game fish. You can find out by contacting their office.

They aren't hard to keep, but need space and a lot of food (which means lots of water changes) unless there's a way of keeping the tank water cool.

I caught a few and let them loose in a pond by house. That was 2 years ago. They are now like HUGE!

I would say in most places not at all. If you want to be sure in your area the best place to turn to is the fish and game office, which should be listed in the blue pages. They do get to be rather large so that is the primary concern with having one.

there are lots of laws on game fish. in most cases bass have to be so many inches just to keep them.
If you really plan on following the law call the DRN in your state.
If you dont plan on following the law do what ever you plan to do and keep your mouth shut.
