ok...my male beta has had enough time to settle down but he's not. he's hyperactive, hasn't eaten since i got him almost a week ago, his food rots at the bottom, i got three kinds of food and he has only eats a few freezer dried blood warms (i have a plant in there and he seems to like it. does he eat the roots?), and even if he did wouldn't he also need a differant diet? He seems to want to get out even if there are no reflections around. He can c the female in the bowl him but after flaring at her a couple of times he's like tottally ignoring her seeming to want to get out on the other side. Female eats lots and is active. Now what should i feed HIM!? or how so that the food doesn't pile up and rots at the bottem. he doesn't touch pellets or flakes. how many days can he go without food? HELP!! (at least he's active...if that is a comfort at all cause he might stress himself out.:s)

hey thanks....i didn't think seeing a female all the time will make a male go crazy. :P she's in a separate tank after all. I guess he goes crazy not being able to go to her. :P I'll tried blocking his view from her....he seems to be calm already. I'll also try not to feed him for a few days...not that he's eaten all that much. Thanks again guys.

I would suggest not feeding him for at least 2-3 days and also fix it so that he can't see the female, that's 99% of the problems you are having. Clean up his bowl with fresh water and no left over food, keep him where he can't see the female and then allow him 2 days or so without food and he will begin taking other foods and also calm down.

Clean his bowl, save some old water. Get rid of any rotting food. Mine love Hikari Betta Bio-gold. Find out what he was eating if possible. If you can get some live worms from the aquarium store, try a few of those.

My Bettas usually hate flakes. They eat live or they eat Betta floating food. The specialty food seems the best for me. Keeping worms alive in the fridge is tricky. I haven't tried frozen food yet. I am going to try live brine shrimp as a treat.

I feed my fish every day or every other day. I do NOT overfeed ever. That can cause big problems. My fish will miss some Betta bites, so I show him where they are and then he eats them right up.

I agree with blocking his view of the female.

I have had two Bettas'.I hand fed both. I fed them a tiny pellet or a flake of Betta food one bite at a time.Feed at same spot in aquairium each time.If it has flat sides and you're right handed, the right hand front corner is best. If left-handed, the left-hand corner.Talk to your fish and rub the spot where you feed him,as if you are petting him through the glass. At first you may feel stupid if you don't normally "pet" your fish. He may even back away from your finger at first.Take your time.I think when you first get a Betta, they slack off on their eating anyway. Both of mine did at first.I had to feed them more often but they liked their food better. When you give them a bite and they don't eat it, don't put in anymore.Only put enough for your female and she may even want to be hand fed also.I have always heard that their stomach is about the size of their eye ball. They don't need much. I got where I could pet my Bettas....Hold my finger in the water and they would come up and gently rub against it. One of them, if he didn't want to be petted, would go to the bottom of the tank and I would tip my finger in the flakes and he would jump up and eat it off my finger.I would hold my finger just a bit out of the water.Hope yours eats better soon. Generally they won't starve themselves. Good Luck.

Try not feeding him for a day. Then put about 2 flakes of food in there and see what he does. And make sure to clean that old food off the bottom or you're going to screw up the water. They make fish food just for betas so I'd try that.

mine was acting crazy, at the time he was in a 1 gallon, now that he's in a 10 gallon..he is more calm, graceful, no more "fits", loves hiding in his little house and checking out the plants. i also let him see the female fish once and a while and he doesn't act half as crazy as he did. he used to pace the bowl like a crazy fish, now he's much calmer

quite hard to solve that one huh?,,,,,, maybe its on the type of food you're feeding him,, maybe he was already accustomed with the type of food that he's eating on the petshop where you bought him,if that's so ask the petshop if what type of food he is eating,, because I have a flowerhorn that only eats one type of food, when I put another brand,he doesn't eat it and ignored it completely,,,, fish sometimes only eats what they used to eat from the start........another possibility is that he ants to breed with the female beta beside him,,,, you will know it when there are lots of bubbles on the males tank.. if that's the case put them together but it is better to monitor them yet unles we're not sure that he really wants to breed because if our speculations were wrong he ould only kill the femle beta... good luck bro
