I just got a call from the petstore saying that they got the clown loaches... im wondering if it would be safe adding them into the tank with a tiny sick gold barb...

if not, i can reserve them. for a while (i hope a while)

but for future reference, how should i introduce the loaches into the tank? so they wont get sick
salt? stress coat?
help?

thanks

Reserve the clown loach until you have resolved the problem with your golden barb, however with every fish you introduce,

Float the bag for 10 minutes then start adding small amounts of water from the tank to the bag every couple of minutes, do this for 15minutes or so then scoop the fish out of the bag, never tip the water into the tank, even if the fish are healthy the water in the bag may not be. I have to admit that i tend to use my hand for this purpose i find it less stressful for the fish however which ever method you use to get clown loach out of the bag remember that just below the eye is a sharp spine they put up with can come as a shock when it sticks in a digit.

Clown loach grow slowly so you'll have plenty of time to decide whether a larger tank is necessary.

Remove then gold barb into a hospital tank wash and cyle the main tank and then get the clown loaches and once the gold barb is back to its self you can put it in, And im just thinking... Clown loaches need big tanks? What size is you tank? Something tells me its a 20 gal

First, if you can't hold the fish take out the gold barb and put it in a seprate container. Second, before you add the fish let them sit in the bag floating in the water for about 30 mins. to get them used to the new water temp. Also, NEVER put the water from the store in your tank it is NOT good for the fish. either pour out the water with the fish in the bag and try not to let the fish start flopping around in the sink or take a net and take the fish out of the bag that way. Third, when you put the fish in the tank make to add stress coat.

some fish need a temp in water. what kind of fish do you have go on google and look at what they need as far as a heater in the water and see if your fish are good with leaches in the water but what it sounds like is your fish will not make it through the day buy some new ones after you do your homework. sorry

Don't add healthy fish to a "sick" aquarium (or vice-versa.)
Buy a second tank to use as a quarantine tank.. saves a lot of problems. Of course the second tank will soon be used as a set-up,, so you will need a third tank for quarantine... you see where this is heading?
