Ok so I recognize this isn't a fish but...

I once had an albino frog that lived entirely under the water. It was the coolest pet! Not much bigger than your thumb when young, I'm not sure how big they get because my roommate killed mine, but still a great non-goldfish alternative. You can keep them in the same sort of tank.

ok, depends if you are going to take care of it, or if you are going to set it on the counter in a bowl and forget to feed it. THen you have to go with the betta. But if you are serous i can't tell you what to get, you should go to your local fish store they will help you, if you want a uniqe fish that is diffrent from all other fish you may get that fish, or one whose colors attract your eye. When i go to a pet store i don't pet in my head what i am going to buy, if i see a nice fish i get it, like my rykin, i loved him at first sight( he's a fancy type of goldfish) I went and bought him his own tank that day. So i think you should take this into consideration

Depends on the size of the tank, but real simple solution.

Rosy Barbs
White cloud mountain minnows

Both of which are hardy and will happily live at room temp.

It depends what size your tank is but if its at least 5 gallons you could try guppies(all the same sex if you don't want fry)or neon or glow lite tetras which are a schooling fish.
