my fish just had babies. Are they ok staying in the nusery? It seems like when I leave babies they slowly die off. Do they need their own tank?

I have kept mine in the nursery for like 4-6 weeks until they get big enough to be released on the main tank.

You have to remember that you have to get the water to move inside the nursery because some of them don't have that good circulation, I do this by lifting the nursery from one side so there will still be water for the fry (baby fish). Once a day is good, twice is even better.
Also when you do this you will clean uneaten food from the inside. You can also use a turkey baster to get the dirt out (and move the water of course) but you may also take some fry out using this method so you have to be very careful.

If possible, set a small tank for them but it has to be cycled and I will recommend that you use water from the parent tank to fill it up so the ph, nitrite, nitrate, etc will be very close in their values and you don't shock the fry when you move them.

I hope this helps.

Do you want to keep them? It depends what you want out of it, everyone starts off this way. Obviously those little floating traps are only good for a week at most, then you have to decide if your moving em.

As a kid i started off with a 24inx15inx18in, within a year (i worked in an aquarist shop) I'd got 4 of these and was running out of space for all the live bearers, i then had a larger tank with angels, problem solved. But the point is you can get dragged into keeping fish in a big way, the only time i save fry now is if they're something I'm attempting to breed or they're something someone may be interested in having from me. My 6x2x2 planted discus tank has a natural population of Wag tail platies there's always between 15 and 30 fish there obviously it being planted protects a few from each drop, but I'd be surprised if its more than 2. Same with the bottom feeders there's generally a bristle nose cat turn up once in awhile although Ive seen several broods appear. Cardinal tetras are good for keeping those numbers down.

Depends on what other kind of fish are in the tank. Aggressive fish will eat the babies for lunch. Some fish eat their own babies, but usually not all of them. You can buy a tank devider for alot less than a whole new tank, plus you dont have to pay for another pump, gravel, light, etc.

It depends on what type of fish they are live bearers will eat their young so they need their own tank or need to be separated. While others will take care of their young. You really need to research what type of fish you have because their are different ways that fish take care of their young.

You can keep them in a breeder/box/net or you can set up a small tank 1-5 gal for them i have 3 one gal goldfish bowls set up with small 25 wat heaters and just an air stone in each tank, Once they get biger i move them to one of the 10 galls

Usually, the baby fish get eaten.

So yes, it is better to have another tank.

Yes they do need their own tank, also if you can't move them adding lots of plants or breeding grass helps!
