I'm not sure, but in the mating season, males get lines on their dorsal fin.

It relies upon on the style of fish--bettas, men are brightly colored with long flowing tails---"stay bearing fish" in case you seem heavily, you will see a "sword" under its physique, egg layers are somewhat harder. Tiger barbs, the boys have a "V" of their tail while the ladies human beings indent is rounded. another egg layers, if ou seem on the tummy bladder , the boys tend to come returned to a ingredient while women genuinely everyone seems to be rounderthe same as a results of fact the occasion above. Anglefish (and top now i'm able to't submit to in recommendations that's which yet one intercourse has an indent via the nostril and the different has a bump. A fantail goldfish, one intercourse (while looking stragiht down on it) looks as though the tail has been broken. Out of three puppy shops in the area, i'm the only one that could desire to tell the sexes as a results of fact i replaced into the only person who researched it. As maximum human beings will inform you, men are brighter shade additionally . Guppies and swordtails can and do each and every so often substitute sexes in the previous turning out to be person even though it by no ability it defined why.

Hmm, lets see.... The females will be the ones most likely to spend time in the mall talking on a cell phone to their friend on the other side of the hall about that new cute perch in the tank next door :)

OR, many fish can be (ID'd by sex) or sexed. But many cannot short of surgery which will answer your question, but leave the patient cold and stiff. :)

In many common tropical fish the females have a second opening just ahead of their anal pore.

Many fish cannot be sexed as juveniles at all.

While I have joked a bit here. Sexing fish is not hard, but some knowledge of the specific fish is needed. Most decent books will help with sexing popular fish.

Ray

Depends on the type of fish to how to tell the difference, live bearing fish differ in that the male has a copulatory organ instead of an anal fin.
In egg layers it varies from shape of dorsal fin in large cichlids to colouring in gourami's, thickness of body in tetra's and so on. giz a clue to your fish.

It depends on the fish. Some have extreme external characteristics (like sharks, rays, skates, chimeras and live-bearers) and some have flamboyant males (like bettas). Many are ambiguous and require intrusive examination. Some are ambivalent with respect to sex and change to deal with changes in environment or reproductive need.

Male goldfish have longer more slender bodies with longer fins. The females are rounder with shorter fins.

It depends on the type of fish. There are several ways. The dorsal fin, pointy on male round on female. Underside fin, pointed like a penis or rounded, and by color. Males are more brightly colored.
