I want to provide him with some movement in the water plus I like the way it looks too. The pump I have hooked up to my skeleton guy is really for a 5 gallon tank. Do they make a pump for a 2.5 gallon tank and would it make less air bubbles so my fish can not be distured so much. Right now I have the bubble thing turned off, but I really like my skelton guy and wnat to start him bubbling again. Any suggestions? Would strong bubbling water be ok for goldfish?
Thanks.

A really simple (and inexpensive) solution is to put a valve on the airline tubing so you can adjust the flow: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10420/product.web Most pet/fish stores should carry these near the air pumps and tubing.

Beta fish are very strong, and although they do love calm, mirky water they are very good survivors. In fact, they can get their oxygen from either the water or from the air (but they cannot live without being IN the water). Betas are best left by themselves, and you have a good tank size for him.

You really shouldn't put any fish in with the beta. He will nibble on goldfish fins and may attack any other kind of fish, even a female of its own kind. If you want to breed the beta (fighting fish), you need to have lots of cover for the female to hid in.

You can tell if you are putting too much air into your tank when it turns cloudy from the air mixing with the water. You can get a type of air pump that has a mixing valve to control the amount of air in the line.

If you want other fish, the best thing for you to do would be to get another tank. I recommend getting at least a 30-gallon tank, in which you could keep three goldfish and some neons; that makes a very pretty, peaceful tank. With goldfish, just remember that they need to live in a tank with a good filter, because they are a little bit messy (but worth it for their beauty)!

A hawkeye 201 is what I have in one of my betta tanks (1 gal) and she's just fine with the bubbles.

I have an elite 799 for my 2.5 gal tank and the same air unit for my goldfish tank... great units so far!

The key is to not have enough current to move the fish, then it's unplesant for them, my fish are thriving with what I've got and I hope my experience helps =)

I think that a betta fish would rather not like the bubbles. They do best in still, calm water. But I think the bubbles would be fine for goldfish. Goldfish are ok with rougher water.

Too much bubbling would be the point where you can't see the fish! I agree with the first guy. My beta prefered still water. She hated anything that stirred in her vision too much.
