I currently give my snails algae wafers, dried blood worms and they really LOVE peas. But what other foods should I give them for variety?

Also they're shells are kind of deteriorating. What would be good to give them to make them stronger? I tried cuttlebone in the water but they wanted nothing to do with it. I also tried the calcium things that are really for turtles and again, they wanted nothing to do with it.

I currently have a 29 gallon tank. I have 2 black moors and 2 gold fish fantails, 1 plecto (bristle nose), and 1 chinese algae eater. I have had the 4 goldfish for about 3yrs and did upgrade from a 10 gal to a 29 gal because they did get huge. My Plecto is not really big too although he usually just hides out. should I upgrade to a 55 gallon now???

Hi, all.

Recently I noticed, that 'attached' in the crook of one of my fishtank decor pieces, is a strange object. It looks like a pink piece of the fishfood (flakes) but it is surrounded by a white layer. It almost looks like mold, but I didn't think with the filter and the algae killer it could get moldy food.

Could it be eggs? I have 8 neon tetra and 1 little catfish. If it is moldy food I will vaccuum it up but if it is eggs, I want to leave it.

My Blue Damsel fish had her eggs today on the inside of a shell, but the male isnt looking after them, this is their first batch, does this mean that they are not fertilized? I have a small 5 Gallon aquarium at the ready...should i take them out and put them in there or leave them? or just not bother? I know most of them wont survive anyways, just my first experience with this.
Thanks

Please do not do it. Goldfish are the most common victim of this practice. If you keep big fish in small tanks, or think it is OK, please do a google or yahoo(or any search engine) search for "Fish Stunting."

My aquarium has been running for about 12 days now. 1 Ryukin Goldfish and 3 little minnows. How often do you change the water while your new tank is trying to cycle? The petstore told me to add the water they gave me to the tank because it was 'established water'. Is this going to speed things up?

I admit I've changed the water 2 or 3 times since day 1. I'm afraid to leave it be, because I hear the cycling process can kill alot of the fish. I dont want my fish to die. :/ Am I supposed to leave it alone, or is changing the water fine?

Please no long lectures on the importance of cycling. I KNOW. I want to simply know if water changes once a week is fine. If it slows down the cycling, fine. I just don't want to stress my fish. That's cruel. What good is cycling the tank to keep your fish healthy if cycling it near-kills it?

I COULD probably get one from the flower shop nearby...but I would much rather have a bigger and better selection to choose from. Therefore I want to get mine from Petsmart or Petco in Idaho Falls 2 hours away. And yes before anyone asks, I am aware that I need to go promptly home after I pick him up.

Any advice as to how to safely transport him from Point A to Point B?

I've heard about using a cooler (not a cold one) to place the bag or cup in. I have a small one. Would that work?

I have a 29 gallon fish tank with 4 fish in it (irredescent shark, 2 pleco, and a fanned tailed goldfish) . Over the weekend, my area was involved in a widespread power outage. How do I go about keeping my fish tank water from getting to cold for the fish? I would just hate for my fish to die because the water got to cold. Any suggestions?

In the last week 9 fish have been eaten. No signs of what kind of critter is the culpret. These KOI were prize fish and very pretty. What would eat them and leave the backbone. I am thinking a crane. I live in Alabama in a bird sanctuary area. What ever it is, it is good at fishing.

Got my betta July last year as a gift w/ a peace lily. I moved him to a bigger 1 gallon glass vase with a big opening to allow air & did full water changes every 7 days. He was always a good eater and made his 'happy' bubbles... everything was good. Abt 3 weeks ago, I noticed a change. He stopped swimming around excitedly as his usual & stayed mostly on the surface under the roots of the plant. Another week passed & I noticed that he stopped eating which was unusual. I tried the pellets to maybe give him a change. He never touched it. I even tried thawed bloodworms... yuck! I read up on the web and decided to try treatment based on some of the specs using a flashlight & tried to see fish's face - looked like it 'may' have some gray spots so I tried BettaFix to treat him for fungus and added aquarium salt... but no change. I took out the plant, cleaned the bowl b4 the treatment. No change. As of yesterday, he's lost color & stays below the bowl as if he sank head first. HELP Please..

I have an aquarium with three fantail goldfish in it. There is one that keeps getting bigger, one that never grows, and one that floats upside down almost all the time. A year ago I asked a friend if my fish was going to die. He said it probably would. Well, it's been a year, the other fish are fine, and that one is still upside down. Any ideas?
