Frankly, the only way to tell is by how many credit cards they hold. The fish with the most credit cards is female. If a fish with fewer cards (male) can get a fish with more cards (female) to switch cards then the male becomes female and visa versa.

Ok, enough babble. The only way to tell is through the fin structure. It's been so long since I read the answer to this question and I don't want to misguide you. Visit the local pet shop. They should have a book with diagrams and explanations.

I have a beautiful 4" yellow angel that I named Groucho four years ago. I just found out the real name was Gracie when I caught her laying eggs. To bad my clown fish has a taste for omelets.

Adult males develop white pimples onaround their head during spawning season. Females are plumper than males.

I think the girls have the little "nubs" on their snouts. I think I read somewhere that the little nubs have something to do with when she lays her eggs.
